RAF Kinross was an operational base in WW2 I think and used to be a communications listening post up til recently when it was decided to close it down and get rid of the "golf ball". BTW.......it's near to Loch LEVEN.
Strangely enough there is a Jet Provost trainer sitting behind a fence there......I know not why.
The whole site is now famed as the venue for the T in the Park annual music festival.
RAR Kinloss is in the North of Scotland not far from Inverness and is the only Station operating Nimrods.
It does appear to be a tragic accident following an in-flight refuelling operation and not a result of hostile action, but as the squadron is so closely linked to the local community the grief is probably more centralised.
HRH Chooky Emburgh isn't the most popular Royal but I suspect that most of the time he is misquoted because of his habit of allowing his mouth to run ahead of his brain, but c'mon, he's an old man so let's just tolerate him.
