Would you kill Osama Bin Laden ?
You have 'strong' evidence that OBL will be dining in a restaurant with a number of his chief lieutenants.
But, but, there will be civilians there too.
It is your shout - do you send in a missile ?

crete - Dresden, Hamburg.
Peenemunde - where the bomber force deliberately targetted the houses of (civilian) technicians.
War is sh!te.
It will never be my call, but for a few people it is. In wars people die. Better to examine why wars happen than to quibble about command decisions taken genuinely during conflict. Hitler invaded Poland. Britain started an argument over it. Millions died.
OBL dining in a restaurant. It makes you think.

No. It might have been morally right to do so to Hitler, who was continuing to cause the deaths of millions whose lives you could save by killing him. But the death of bin Laden - assuming he's still alive - won't make any difference; he doesn't have armies under his command, just people who feel inspired by him, and they will go on being inspired whether he lives or dies. If you know where he is, arrest him and try him.
So jno, you are saying that to bomb Hitler with collateral damage was ok, but to bomb Bin Laden with collateral damage is not ?
People pick me up on trying to compare contemporary events with WW2, Dresden, Hamburg, etc. Apart from time, there is not a lot of difference.
Ultimately, what is anybody fighting for, why fight at all indeed, why not just lie down and accept everything.
I support my country and way of life. It is worrying how many people sit on their ar$es in comfort and criticise the country that gives them their security.
