Since I found this site I've been amazed at the speed at which (to me) even the most obscure questions have been answered. In an idle moment I looked through all the unanswered questions which tell their own story. {I'm posting the numbers in an answer}. Are others as impressed as I am ?

That is to save everyone from having to do a count.
Well done....I would suppose that the large number of unanswered questions in the advert section is due to the relative obscurity of the questions asked (i.e. what's this actors name....etc) and the low numbers are in the sections where more opinion based questions are often asked (i.e. News)....as for speed of answers it just depends who's online at any given time....many's the time i have seen a question and gone to answer it and in the time it has taken me to script my answer someone has beaten me to the punch...and I suppose the regulars (that dread word again) are a pretty cosmipolitan bunch so there is a fair spread of knowledge.
I agree that there are some pretty impressive answers. Having looked at some of the unanswered questions myself I can quite understand why most of them remain unanswered. Some are just mind boggling in their obscurity.

I think, Mr Einstein, that it is one from the Internet & Tech section, posted on 1/11/2001 and asking for information about an Evaluation K149 Keyboard.
This might not be correct because the order of archived questions is not always logical and doesn't always work in date order.
I'll give the link to the question I've mentioned just in case anyone wants to answer it.
I would also be interested to know if anyone can find an older unanswered question.
question 4796
and when did this site start?
Question Author
Now that seems shrouded in mystery. The earliest references I can find are for 01/11/2001, however I,ve seen an answer from October 2002 that refers to the site being operational for nearly 2 years. (posted by Andy Hughes). I would be interested to know on what date Answerbank actually went live.
The Answerbank went live in January 2001. The first questions were posted by people working on the site (and their friends - thanks everyone) in the weeks before then. Question #1 was written on 1 December 2000: http://new.theanswerbank.co.uk/DisplayAnswers.go?q
uestion_id=1&category_id=18&index=0
and 30,174 questions later, the site's still here.
So, might we deduce from this that regular Answerbankers love Animals & Nature, keep up with the News, have a penchant for Phrases & Sayings and History & Myths, enjoy their Food & Drink, are quite Arty & Literate, but are not keen on TV and detest Adverts.....

Dunno about anyone else but since the "indian guy in the peugeot advert" saga where we answered this question 49 squillion times, i have given up on the adverts section as a) the questions are more often than not a load of tosh (what was the name of the girl in the oxy 5 advert? etc.) and b) the turnover of questions means you never got to see them for very long
