Clash of Civilisations

I read in a mag quite a while back that there would one day be a severe clash between two major civilisations. Between the Western World and the Islamic world. At that tiime, I just turned over the page. Now, I cant help but wonder, if that article was right? And if yes, how far away are we from a full fledged war?

Right, 3% of the population are going to take over the country. Did they not do maths at your school?
Whether it's fists, guns, knives or ideas, 3 people picking a fight with 97 is never going to win. DUH!

No, Tonyted, you dance your own tune and allow people to have a power over you that they really don't have. Nothing is going to come of any of this as long as the majority on both "sides" for want of a better word, hold their nerve and remember that essentially most people from the other "side" are pleasant, sensible people just like them.It's when you mistakenly allow terror to creep into your everyday life that things start spiralling downwards and every Muslim becomes a potential threat, then violent kneejerk attacks follow and before you know where you are, nice ordinary but very frightened people have started a small war that it'll take years to come back from. Thankfully I think enough people realise this to stop it happeneing, but the more everyone can calm the extremists in our midst the less likely it'll ever happen.

But, unfortunately, the majority of the oil the western world needs is under muslim countries. So they do have a power over us. A power they could exploit spectacularly. 3% or not, they can pretty much dictate their own terms, should they wish. We're just lucky Suadi & Kuwait are currently reasonably friendly with the west.
