Diagnostics Equipment for Rover 600

Hi,

I'm the proud owner of both a 1998 S 620 Ti and 1998 R 620 SLDi (stop laughing!), and am desperate to try to find the correct tool for reading engine fault codes for both.

The most urgent is the diesel as it's developed an intermittent fault which my local garage (they're good), MG-Rover.org, the answer bank and countless google searches have been unable to answer.

PLEASE could anyone tell me where I can buy the equipment to plug in to try to get to the bottom of it. If you know where I can get one to read the 2.0 petrol turbo too it would be very much appreciated too.

Hi,

The garage I use found no fault codes on their diagnostic machine, apart from the air flow sensor, but they took one off a friends car which is working fine and that didn;t solve the problem. They did however tell me that their equipment isn't rover specific so may have missed something. They're very trustworthy and though we have a local ex-Rover dealership (now X-Part) I'd rather spend the extra and get the equipment myself.

Thanks for the link, but the machines there are not suitable for the 2.0 turbo engines apparantely, unless I've misread it, which is possible!

you can display the trouble codes without buying any tools.

you bridge pins 4 and 15 on the diagnostic socket with a piece of wire and your dash light will flash the codes to you.

long flash for tens of units
short for single units
long pause between codes..

so 2 long flashes and 3 short wil be code 23.. etc
then you can look the codes up on the net.
