what is your view on the teacher who refuse to take off her veil? personally i could not and would not speak to someone who i could not see. i have great respect for teachers but i do not expect my children to be taught by someone who hides her face from them.
sp you're being silly now, ok the sikh maybe hiding a knife or whatever in his turban, but if he uses it he can be identified and dealt with, BECOS YOU CAN SEE HIS FACE, UNDERSTAND. surely that is easy to grasp..
anyone who thinks its ok for kids to NEVER see the face of their teacher is a idiot (sorry sp). I am sure teachers are taught how to interact with children, how can you possiably do this through a veil? Anyway, she has been sacked and this decision has been backed by many government ministers INCLUDING the race relations minister, so there is no question, this is not ok and it will not be tolerated. I applaud the people who spoke us against this incursion into British classrooms.
To sp1814 - May I apologise for the above comments about you posted under my name. I certainly don't resort to offensive name calling. It was not posted by me but as it appears under my name I have to take responsibility.
admarloe 'this incursion into British classrooms'? For goodness sake lets get this into perspective. It was one person who wanted to wear a veil. This is about her not a whole religion or section of the community. It wasn't an incursion (Dictionary definition 'an invasion or attack..') it was one misguided individual. So many people on this site want to stir up hatred.
hal, this was a landmark case and likey to set president, so yes it is an important matter, and could have been the thin edge of the wedge. I have no problems with veils but not in every situation (another would be I would like to see the face of any Judge, Policewoman, Doctor, etc I come into contact with.)
No it wasn't likely to set precedent, it was about one employer's view about what was acceptable in a member of staff. I agree with the employer as it happens, but thats beside the point. We are demonising a whole religion her, and that is what concerns me.
