Proposed smoking ban in places of work...

Anyone know if prisons will be exempt? Or are we going to have prisons full of addicts climbing the walls (figuratively!) ?

Smoking will continue to be allowed in prisons, residential nursing homes and mental health institutions because smoking is not going to be outlawed in the privacy of one's own home.

Well drugs r illegal in prison and the prisoners still manage to get hold of them so i guess it would be the same for cigs/roll ups. But i doubt they would impose a ban in prisons.

Scotland has the 'no smoking in the work-place' law already. However, smoking in prison cells is permitted. You may like to know it's also allowed in police interview rooms!

and the only bar in the uk not to face the ban is the bar in the house of commons. because it's in a royal palace. conveniently.

I heard that bob but I think they have relented and that the commons bars will also be included in the ban. I could be wrong though, anyone clear this up?

I might add that under the Scottish ban on smoking, if you employ a workman to carry out work in your home, it becomes a 'workplace', and you mustn't smoke while they're there. Foster parents are banned from smoking in the home, but there's nothing in the law to stop the children lighting up!

We already have a smoking ban here in Guernsey. The law here says that we are not allowed to smoke in any bus shelters if they have more than two sides. Also we are not allowed to smoke in a works lorry or van if there are more than one person in it.Will it be the same there.
