Newsnight and the left wing media
Does anybody agree with the ex editor of the Sun, when he said on newsnight that kost people are incharge of the media have their own liberal left wing agenda, I do. He included to current editors of the Sun before anybody starts.

I think there's a disparity between the print media and television/radio.
Most national papers lean to the right (with the exception of The Observer, Guardian, Mirror and Independent).
You could argue that programmes such as Radio 4's 'Today' lean to the left.
In all though, I think we have a pretty good balance, with no one political point of view dominating.

Everyone in the media has an agenda of sorts simply because they have an audience and whilst you can argue with that audiences preconceptions and views from time to time you won't survive if you constantly fight with your readership/listenership/viewers.
So in reality the editorial policy of the media tends to reflect the views of the custtomers rather than the other way around.
That really only leaves you debating labels - as to whether you call the BBC's position liberal and left wing - personally I'd say definately liberal, not quite so sure about left wing, maybe left of centre.
I'm certainly amazed that anybody would call the Sun liberal and left wing - I'd love to see some examples of "left wing Sun journalism"

the guys point (and you have to remember that he did used to be the editor of the countries biggest circulating daily newspaper) it that anything/story that reflect a right wing point of view in a good light is simply left and not reported as it will be seen as fasist. Did anybody see the interview?

Immigration will be an election issue.
We need to know what our political parties intend to do about it.

JTP - the example the man gave was then that guy was chopped up with an axe in liverpool last year (terriable!!) it was front page news as it was white on black, but the murder by the 3 asians who were convicted yesterday , when it happened was only carried by one newspaper in a tiny article (page 23 of the Times). and his point was that both crimes were pretty much the same in brutality etc but at the time the asian on white one was not deemed newsworthy but the white on black axe one was. It just made me think thats all. Its easy to pick stories with a right wing flavour, (especial in the Sun he he he ) but what about the stuff thats left out, and Im talking stories, not editorial comment. He thought that this phenominum (sp!! I know) actually caused racial resentment, amoungst white people.
The murder of Kris and its lack of national media coverage has become something of a cause celebre for the BNP and like minded individuals, who have claimed that it shows that the media in general is biased in favour of ethnic minority groups in their coverage. This has I think had an effect, with many more whites becoming convinced that they are under threat, and becoming more sympathetic to the stance of the BNP.
You only have to look at various message boards (this one, the Today one etc ) to see that.
Mind you the most significant polarising issue still surrounds muslims, 9/11, 7/7 danish cartoons etcetc.

I thought the notion that it hadn't run in any newspapers other than the Times had already been proved wrong on here?
But if it is true that only the Times ran it, how does one account for known right-wing newspapers not running it? How come the Mail didn't, for instance. No one surely could possibly argue they'd not print because it was 'too left'.
A useful comparison might be whether the Liverpool murder was reported in the Scottish versions of the newspapers, or whether that would have been deemed 'English news' and therefore not printed. As you'll know, Scottish and English versions of the same newspapers can differ dramatically in content.

I don't think you're comparing like with like. Today's story is about the conviction of Kriss Donald's murderers, whereas the coverage for Anthony Walker at the timr, centred on the search for the killer.
That will always be a bigger story because there's the extra element of 'drama' which the papers like!

By the way, the Kriss Donald story/conviction is a BIG story in London.
admarlow, I don't know where you're writing from, but it's featured heavily in all the papers down here...even in specific 'London' papers (free sheets) such as London Lite and Metro.
Don't know how it's going down nationally, but the fact that it hasn't made the front pages may have more to do with the news that it's competing against - the American mid term elections seem to be getting big coverage in the nationals...
