While I appreciate that his previous Ice block thingy could well have been faked in this stunt he aaproach the Guinness book to see if he would be a record holder if he lasts so I would have to assume that it's above board....BTW he certainly porked out a bit didn't he?
P.S. for anyone interested it won't be a record click here http://www.itv.com/news/1888365.html for more info.

Definitely real - there is a permanent crowd of people there all the time, so there would not be any opportunity for him to cheat without being spotted. All his blankets and clothes etc. were searched live on TV just before he went in. Even the box in which he is enclosed has a transparent base which is only covered by his things - so no room for trick doors or hidden spaces. He is only c. 20 feet up, so very visible.
Point of interest: It was reported last night on local telly here that one George Fairfield of Sunderland spent 72 days in a cage, twice, to raise money for his family during the depression. He lived on only water and cigarettes. The feat has been confirmed by contemporary newspaper reports. His son displayed a trophy awarded to George by the Blackpool authorities after he completed the task there following his successful attempt at Whitley Bay. The 700 prize money George won was spent on medical bills to treat the health problems incurred during the fasts.
