On the face of it, the boss seems to have acted like homophobic bigot, and if he worked for my organisation, he'd have been out on his ear PDQ. There's no need for such behaviour and it's illegal these days anyway.
I've noticed the h word there! Just as an aside, when was the word 'homophobic' invented and by whom? Probably by the BBC, it is not used much in the public bar. Then we had 'islamophobic'. Unfortunately jewaphobic didn't take off!
FFS it means fear of homosexuals - sorry but we're not afraid of them, we watch the BBC and they are on our screens every night mincing about with mock scottish accents telling us what colour our kitchen should be. We just don't like them - is that allowed?

I've always had similar thoughts on the H word as well. A phobia is an extreme and abnormal fear (this is a dictionary definition) which is a whole world away from either a dislike or a distaste.
It strikes me that the H word, and for that matter the R word is bandied about by people far too readilly these days (usually by people who are straight, as far as the H word is concerned, and white, as far as the R word is concerned), and it utterly cheapens the meaning of both.
Now I don't particulary care one way or the other - I'd be lying if I didn't say I find the thought of gay sex distateful, in much the same way as I find tattooes on women distateful but that's just me: whatever they get up to as consenting adults is fair play in my book, and damn good luck to them.
Does that make me a homophobe?

At the end of the day it is racism. It is the same as if you uttered a racial slur to an ethnic person.
And as for you FRANKIEF you should keep your homophobic opinions to yourself.
It's hard being "different" and not the common "norm", and to be prejudiced by society all through your life is hard. So
as for the man concerned in the news story, I say well done to him for reporting it, and doing something about it, rather than keep quiet and suffer.
If it was an ethnic person mentioned in the story, would you FLIP-FLOP have mentioned the story on here?
Nah, didn't think so.

Completely irrelevant adrums: my point was, isn't 120k for being called a poof too much?
He's a salesman - every salesman I have ever met has had a hide like a rhino: I wouldn't've thought being called a poof was that hurtful to even the most sensitive of individuals let alone a succesful salesman.
If he was truly hurt and upset (and I have my doubts), surely an apology would have been enough.
120,000 completely over the top.

I don't recognise that word, however I will comply if you also keep your homosexual views to yourself!.
You may be different to the norm, yes, as are most people in some way, but you are confusing being different with being special. Therefore don't expect special treatment from society or indeed from answerbank members..
