My 14 year old nephew has been smoking for two years. He says he can't give up. How can we make him see sense? He was grounded for a few months, but was recently caught with cigarettes again.

That's a good idea stokeace. I will suggest it to his dad. Thanks for both your replies.
Buy a pack yourself, and in collusion with his parents, make him smoke the lot, one after the other.
no probs shazzabell hope it works.......................
I was probably about the same age when I tried my first cigarette. One day, when everyone was out, I tried rolling my own using one of my dad's rizla papers and some of his pipe tobacco. I was as sick as a dog and felt nauceous everytime I smelt cigarette smoke - an effect which lasted approx. 6 months. Only a idea - but it put me off!
shazz - Tell him from me, the smell from a smoker is the biggest turn off, theres not one good thing going for it, stinks!
It is as hard to give up smoking after two years as it is after twenty, so don't expect it to beany easier for him than for an adult. The boy surely already knows the down sides of smoking - it's pushed at them so much these days, it's hard to ignore. If he genuinely wants to give up, his GP can help. Many surgeries these days hold special clinics for people trying to kick the habit, and GPs and their staff have a remit to support people who want to pack it in - it doesn't matter how old someone is or how long they've been smoking.
Is there someone else in your family that still smokes?

If you want your nephew to give up, then the adult who smokes needs to set an example.
Take him to the cancer ward at your local hospital (that's if the hospital will allow it of course). A bit drastic but you never know it may do the trick. Good luck.
I was about the same age as your nephew when I started smoking. That was nearly fifty years ago.
I eventually packed up last August, having spent a fortune on cigarettes and not improved my health. I stopped smoking having read Allen Carr's book - The Easy Way to Stop Smoking. I am not suggesting that simply reading the book will do the trick - there has to be a will to stop as well, but it would be a start. Good luck with your efforts.
Tell him that every cigarette causes 25,000 cell mutations in his body and if they don't get fixed, it could build up into cancer at a very young age. Smoking is SO bad for you. I made my fella stop as soon as I met him cause it was like licking an ashtray whenever we kissed. Oh, tell him that too, no girls will want to kiss him when he stinks! :p
With the best will in the world, nothing will work until he's good and ready to stop.

If his heart isnt in it he's not likely to succeed.

He surely knows as well as we do all the reasons why he shouldnt smoke but until he's ready, nothing will make him stick to it.
