Sex Offenders' Details to be put on Internet

Sex offenders' details could be published on the internet according to a justice minister. Offenders who fail to co-operate with the police or abscond from their homes would have their information posted on a secure website if the proposals are enforced. The idea is to make the details of the most threatening offenders available to people if they are still at large. Is this the most effective way to deal with the problem of sex offenders in the community?

No, the most effective way is hanging, if not, keep them locked up forever,

Why take the risk?

The law is an a$$
What are we supposed to do with the information?
Good on you ELVIS68, but thats so obvious it won't happen.
I'm with Elvis, why let danger back on the streets. But how much of these lean sentences that the perverts get are through blackmail? We have had many law makers and keepers in all sorts of sex scandals and we (me and you) don't know the half of it and then there are the ones that have never been caught, as these people have networks, you can guarantee, they have come across one another. The people in power seem to be the biggest offenders if you ask me and i haven't even got to corrupt and pervert Politicians and religious groomers.
give them an injection that contains cyanide.................
Hmmm, i agree with ELVIS68 , what are they releasing them for in the first place?
Instead of building more prisons. Why not build special communities? There are lots of islands available. They could be turned into 'alcatraz' like prison islands, with the only difference being, they get to live on the island, but away from kids.
I have many ideas for things. When i am in power...
Hmmmm, supposing they put the wrong details on this secure website?
love the idea of a justice minister.
The public will be serving their own justice if they get there first.
Still, spose it's one way of getting rid of 'em.
Sex Offenders are criminals, and the particular crime abhorrent - as part of the sentence a Register is maintained of offenders .... Why?

To help Police to know who is in the area?
Why?
So as to keep an eye on them?
How?
Where is the resource?
Useful cross reference and first point of call when a new sexual assault occurs?

To let parents know that a sex offender is loiving in their Street?
Why?
So the parents are more vigilant?
Opportunity to 'chase away' an offender?
Target practice for the local bullies?

Whatever .... the whole matter is ....... set in a political context - easy positive PR for politicians and the government of the day

i agree with elvis, i also think the dogooders should have one of their family effected by a sex offender ....would they then have the same attitude i wonder
I agree with lector.

What am I supposed to do if I found out an offender has moved in next door..

Try and sell the house? (great advert for it)
Castrate them?
Tell the computer-free neighbours and let them castrate them?
Pippa makes a very good point ~ just what do we do with this information?
There is always the possibility that the werong info gets poste and innocent people get lynched or hounded out of their homes - what then? Ooops sorry we f*cked up won't cut it when for instance, a fifty year old man commits suicide and leaves behind a devestated family because 'someone' made an error when keying info in.
Apart from that, where will it end? Are we going to see aburgulars register, a murderers, fraudsters, speeding ticket offenders?
uh .....yesmadam ~ are you still for 'getting rid of them' if the wrong details are put on the site? What happens then? When the public are up in arms and the info is wrong? Mud sticks and innocent people could be victims of ignorant vigilanties - are you going to be happy to join up with them?
Samuel, you have misunderstood my post.
You have just reiterated it in a different way tis all.

My point is.... supposing they put the wrong details on there? and since I posted this idea first what's your problem?

and then the public will be serving their own justice wont they? right person or wrong person. (oops, sorry wrong details)

I am not for the bleeding hearts of this subject, but I would want there to be NO DOUBT that the name on the list is real and an escaped sicko that deserves all it gets.

Child abuse is very very serious and yes, I would be more than happy to give them their lethal injection.

I do hope you are not about to defend real paedophiles.
I once read a similar thread to this..and one reply stated that one mistaken identity (resulting in torture and/or death) is worth it.

It was that single reply which changed my mind on this subject.
I want to see some clearly defined categories and guidelines, on what has become the dreaded 'register'. It incroporates a vast swathe of sexual crime of varying severity yet the public seem to think that everyone on it must be a predatory paedophile, abducting children off the streets. This is mercifully rare, and the vast majority of sexual abuse is within the family. Publication of this list can only cause fear and hostility, and if someone genuinely dangerous goers missing, is this not what police information boards and appeals are all about? Why do you need something seperate for sex offenders? Quite why someone of genuine danger to the public would be on the streets is beyond me however.

Wouldn't enforced castration be the most apt solution?
What would you do with the information? Use it to keep the hell away from them and make sure your kids know to do the same! Most sex attacks are carried out by someone known to the victim, after they have managed to gain their trust.

This innocent man was killed because he resembled a convicted paedophile (and his face plastered over The Sun):

No I don't think that people should see these people - it will turn into a witch hunt.
All the more reason to keep them locked up...or hanged
