Road Pricing - what a relief!
I'm so relieved that the PM has taken the time to reassure everyone that depite the concerns about road pricing, the government will not press ahead with whatever they want to do regardless of the views of the public...

Unless, of course, we disagree with them, in which case they'll do it anyway because they know better!

If say about 1.8million people sign it as a protest to more interfering and being hammered for more tax, then the government will have to take notice and relent. I mean surely they won't want to be seen as a controlling, heartless, greedy arrogant and patronising dictatorship?
Oh, hang on..........

I received an acknowledgement this morning & sent hm this in return, but I don't expect he'll get to see it:
Hi Mr Blair
Re: Vehicle Tracking & Road Pricing Policy
I don't think it matters a jot to you what the general public think, you'll still go ahead with all the time wasting ideas you probably think up at 3:00am!
The latest 'Vehicle Tracking and Road Pricing Policy' is going too far, especially as we pay enough taxes already!!!!
Also, apart from being the most irritating person I & my friends know, you appear to have an arrogance about you - you know, the "Oh yes let's do it - let's waste OUR/US the taxpayer's money & build the Millennium Dome & if it goes wrong, they'll get over it" kind of attitude!
If I could have met you face to face, I would have said exactly what I've written - but it's obvious I would never get the opportunity to enter 10 Downing Street - you only seem to entertain has been celebrities & creeps!!!!
Enjoy your meeting with Shilpa - I'm sure Cherie will make her a nice pot of Ceylon tea & a plate of cream cakes!!!!
Yours sincerely,
Smudge

In the meantime Llamatron, this para from it does mention 'Big Brother':
'That is the backdrop to this issue. As my response makes clear, this is not about imposing "stealth taxes" or introducing "Big Brother" surveillance. This is a complex subject, which cannot be resolved without a thorough investigation of all the options, combined with a full and frank debate about the choices we face at a local and national level. That's why I hope this detailed response will address your concerns and set out how we intend to take this issue forward. I see this email as the beginning, not the end of the debate, and the links below provide an opportunity for you to take it further'.

In the true British way, we will moan about it amongst ourselves, and then accept it, pay-up and carry on as usual. Just as we do about every other thing that we accept without a fight in this rip-off country of ours.
Now take the French, if there is anything that they strongly disagree about, then they up and take some action, perhaps it is because they have a revolutionary type attitude?

I agree yorkie. It's good to know that the chauffeur driven / travel expense claiming people who run the country are listening to our views and won't just plough ahead with their plans regardless.
Except of course that they will, we know that they will, and they know that we know they will.
What a ludicrous charade.
