Jail Time
My boyfriend know a guy he went to school with and the man just got put in jail because they cops found 99 pot plants in his home. They gave him a year for each plant, so now he is in prison for life. What makes me sick is that last night on the news I seen that a man who made a live video on the internet of him performing sex acts on a 4 month old baby and get this he only got 10 years and 10 years of probation and has to register as a sex offender. How is it that a man with some pot plants or a person with a DUI get more time in prison then a sick f*** that performs sex acts on a 4 month old baby only get 10. I don't understand this, but I think it is BS. I think the sex offender should get life. How can I make a difference in trying to show the people "in charge" that this is unfair and sick? I sex offender should be castrated and the man with the pot plants should only get 10 years at the most.

I have to say I agree with alijangra, I think your boyfriend's got it wrong.the maximum sentence for commercial cultivation of cannabis is I think 14 years.
Interesting you should talk about castration there's a lot of interest right now in our Government and others about castration for sex offenders - it's not a fix for all cases but you may find it coming in a few years time.
Unlikely to be forcible most probably in exchange for a reduction in sentence - something like that.

I am more interested in the post about castration (probably as you say, 'voluntary'). I read a report years ago in a quality broadsheet (The Herald or Sunday Herald, I believe) about how Germany dealt with it's sex offenders in this way. Apparently something in the region of 80+% sex offenders did not re-offend. those who did were believed to have committed offences by 'habit' - the comparison was given to a castrated dog that continues to 'shag' visitors legs:-). I agree this is a policy that needs to be explored.
Here's a summary of the studys on castration

I think the home office is looking at it as an option now

As you don't say what sort of 'pot palnts' they were, one can assume that they were not busy lizzies. To have that many plants then there must have been at least the intention to not only cultivate but to supply also. Think who is going to be supplied with this.........
Whilst I take your point regarding sentencing for Paedophiles, it does not detract that your 'friend' appears to be in the business of supplying drugs. Therefore, a drug-dealer. Think of all the lives he ruins in this gross business for easy money.

Just for pot plants and put his life in prison for life? I guess you have to ask further questions with the authority.
