BBC is accused of wanting to dump Moira Stewart because she has turned 50, and probably replace her with a glamour puss. Isn't this the BBC just dumbing down the news and following other channels trends? (I like moira Stewart by the way)
From what I can gather, her only role since 2001 was a slot on Andrew Marrs 'Sunday AM'. She has not been reading the regular news, and has not been doing much for years.
She began reading the News at 29 (she is now 55), so perhaps she was the glamour puss of her day probably replaced Robert Dougal or other geriatric because they were deemed too old.
Yes I think I could find the time Gromit. The only trouble is though, I might unbalance the BBC's policy of proportional representation between Males & Females.
Its a downright disgrace. Must we now suffer Natasha Kapinski every night, smiling her way through death and destruction everywhere? Did Moira Stewart start of her career singing with the Jimmy Shand band, or am I getting mixed up with Lulu?
There is no chance of Moira being sacked with the BBC's obession with its mix of asian/black/regional/female presenters and reporters. There is even one young lady who is female/asian/scots so they can tick three boxes.
I remember seeing her look lovely on 'Songs of Praise' singing a duet with Jess Yates while a young Paula looked on. If only Paula had gone into newsreading, things would have been very different. I think she sang 'Stairway to Heaven' or it could have been 'Donald where's your trousers'. Anyway, I sincerely hope her singing career takes off again.
