I have to say I am against the building of this huge Mosque.

BUT anyone who says it is going to be built using taxpayers money is just being plain stupid and trying to stir up trouble without an ounce of data to back it up.

If have searched on a number of sites and most say it is going to be funded with money from Saudi Arabia.

I can find no reference to UK taxpayers money being used.

That's purely hypothetical. Christians don't worship in the same way that Muslims to. To Muslims, their religion is (well, it seems to me) an integral part of their lives and their identity.

Christians by and large, in this country don't seem as energised by their faith.

They seem to be more energised by Antiques Roadshow.

The point, SP, is that we are required and expected to be tolerant but the converse is not true. Try and build a church in an islamic state and see how far you get. Why is Islam so unsure of itself that any oppositioin cannot be tolerated? It's ok to ridicule christainity on an almost daily basis but draw a few cartoons and the wrath of Allah is upon the infidel!

You're trying to compare like with unlike.

Islam and Christianity have completely different histories. Completely different origins so today, you cannot compare one with the other.

The way that Muslims worship in this country is entirely different to the way Christians do. In fact, the relationship that Catholics have to their church is completely different to the way that Anglicans worship.

You're proposing something hypothetical. Lets say that if there was a sizeable Christian community in Bhagdad who tried to build a cathedral, what would happen?

You are generalising too much. There are many Islamic countries that have churches and practising christians, even synagogues. There are churches in Iraq - Saddam ran a secular state. Tariq Assis, a practising christian, was even in the government.

Your point is true in a small minority of countries. Saudi Arabia practice Wahabbism, which is a particularly intolerant version of Islam and you can go to prison just for possessing a bible. Wahabbism isn't widespread, and you would be able to practice your christian faith in most Islamic countries.

Ok but why is their position so sensitive to debate or even the slightest dissent, I just don't get it. If someone challenges my view on something I do my best to back it up with a coherant case. Why is Islam incapable of that?

The Muslims already own the land, all they are doing is waiting for planning permission to be approved, then, as has been said, its being financed from Saudi Arabia.

This is the size of the proposed Mosque, and as a matter of interest, London already has more Mosques than anywhere else in Britain.
