Worst Town in Britain Competition
10 Answers
Go on then, what's wrong with your town??
To start the ball rolling, I live in WIDNES, Cheshire, which is between Manchester and Liverpool. It boasts its own abbatoir and power plant (actually there are 2, Fiddler's Ferry and the ICI), there is no direct bus or train link between the two ends of town, there used to be 4 cinemas but now there are none, the swimming pool (a '70s monstrosity of brown and yellow) is frequently shut down for outbreaks of Legionnaires, unemployment is exceptionally high and it has one of the lowest life expectancies in the country.
CAN YOUR TOWN BETTER IT????

Not only do they have Shell Stanlow Oil Refinery but numerous other horrible industries down Oil Sites Road (including Octel which makes chlorine amongst other things), which is just off the town centre. It has the most disgusting shopping centre and a swimming pool that sounds just like the one in Widnes. It always smells bad round there, there can be fallout from the industries onto cars etc. Horrible place.

' Farewell to Shields, the filthiest place
On all Northumberland's dirty face.
The coalhole of the British nation,
The fag-end of the whole creation,
The jags of Newcastle-on-Tyne,
A banquet-house for dogs and swine.
A paradise for bugs and fleas,
And human vermin, worse than these'
