Why so much wind these days ?
7 Answers
Meteorologists amongst you, why is every day so windy now ? In Southern England, the day starts off calm, at 7.30am today it was completely still. Now, 4.30pm, there is a very vigorous wind, my cherry tree is lashing about. I can appreciate it may develop during the day as the sun warms things up - but then we get extremely hot days where there is not a whisper of a breeze. Many of you may not notice it, but to a cyclist who has just pedalled home 20 miles into a headwind, it is a pain ! I have had gusts virtually brought me to a standstill.

In my early meteorological studies I learnt that the day could start sunny without wind but as the land heats up quicker than water, by the afternoon enough air is rising from the land for the cooler air over the sea to blow inland to take its place.
