Prescott going as well (sob sob)
12 Answers
In all the announcements of Blair going it has also been announced that John Prescott is standing down as deputy Labour leader.
Surely a few words from all of us about this wonderful politician are in order.
A fine upstanding man, honest and faithful, and true to his socialist roots.
When he leaves his job I am sure it will leave a huge hole in the labour party.

John Reid the Home secretary is leaving, others will be unloaded, ie Margaret Beckett, Patricia Hewitt and all other femails who hold high office (no sex discrimation but it seems like it), Probably other Tony cronies such as Lord Falconer will go. I have a feeling the only people willing to take high office under Gordon are those of a lapdog mentality who will not be allowed to instigate their own ideas but I could be proved wrong.
Does anyone have any idea why Prescott has been kept around for so long? There has to be a reason but I can't imagine what it is - unless he harbours some very deep dark secrets. A more useless article I've yet to encounter.
And as for Patricia Hewitt - good riddance. What an obnoxious creature she is - and where lies are required, she far outstrips the rest of them.
Oh, and now we have Gordon Brown - heaven help us. He comes across to me as a bit of a dictator who will throw his toys around if anyone opposes him, so I too think he will surround himself with sycophants.

naomi24, why has Prescott been kept around for so long you ask.
I think it is all about balance.
In the USA, when a president comes from the South of the country they try to pick a vice president from the North of the country to balance things out (and vice versa).
Labour USED to be a socialist party, and of course was taken over by the current crop of what can loosely be called liberal tories like Blair and Mandelson (in order to get elected).
(I dont include Brown who I think deep down is still a strong socialist, if he wasnt why would he be so keen to give away money so easily to poor people, so easy in fact that 6 billion pounds has been over paid in tax credits)
Prescott represents the old socialist labour party (comes from Hull, used to be a trade union official, worked his way up from working class etc).
I think he is kept in a top job so that Blair can make the old socialist crowd think that Nu Labour are just like Old labour and have socialist heart.
(Of course Presscot lost most of his socialist ideals and has his snout in the trough like most politicians).
But I think that is why he is still there, to represent the "old" labour party.

Yes the Pie-man is going, a creature who forgot The People as soon as his ample backside was in Govt, who cannot finish a coherent sentence, who told women to have faith in public transport yet took a 100 metre car ride himself for security reasons, whose tenure at Dorneywood must have had Courtauld-Thompson spinning in his grave, who punches people on the hustings, who sticks his fingers up at journalists at Downing Street, who is "given something to do" much like crazy uncle Percy but is too incompetent to organise a **** in a brothel, who uses his Office and his office as a place to have intercourse with foolish mandarins, who is so inept that his mouth was always taped up during crucial points in history lest his crass boorishness and limited vocabulary made him a public liability.
Yep, the ride on the gravy train is over. What a darn shame he will be drawing such a fat pension. Kind of insults the working men and women who put him in power.
