In the news last night , it was reported that three suspected terrorists had gone missing. In the current climate of fear, i find it amazing that these people only had to sign on at a police station each day. How would you lot on AB like to see these people who are a threat to national security handled?
Most of the closet racist on here have been calling for months for anyone who is muslim and has a beard to be deported. Now it looks like the 3 have deported themselves, and not at the taxpayer expense.
"They are believed to be abroad and police fear they may join Islamist militants fighting British troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Three others who were on control orders have also been missing for months."
They were judged not to be a direct threat to national security - see Gromit's link. That's why they were on control orders.
If we'd have been able to legally kick them out of the country we would have - now of course that they've left the country of their own accord everybody's jumping up and down about it.
What was their crime again? being related to a known terrorist?
lets hope that they have gone to iraq and afghanistan to fight against our troops and i sincerely hope that before they can do any harm they get a bullet right between the eyes from a couple of our boys.
Come on, those terrorists that have just been sent to prison for the fertilizer bomb had been photographed with the 7/7 bombers. They were deemed low risk, so what is your point ??
These 3 men have not been charged with anything nevermind found guilty of anything have had these control orders impossed on them, disrupting their lives. I can understand why they got fed up and left the country. If there was a case to answer, then they should have been prosecuted. At the moment they are being treated as guilty until proven innocent. The whole Anti-terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001 was rushed, badly thought out and a terrible reduction of our rights as citizens. Now, this case (as flimsy as it is) is being used by our Home Secretary to further take away our rights.
"The Government may opt out of human rights legislation to allow it to crack down on terror suspects, John Reid said."
What makes me laugh , is the conservatives claiming that the government has failed to 'protect' us from these people' by letting them leave the country - the same party who are arguing against holding suspects , who there is no evidence against
I think it was fine the way it was handled. They were only suspects and anyway, if they are missing, where will they go, France?
It's a small country, they can't hide forever....
But, what if they actually do go on and explode a bomb before they are caught. Recent history has taught us that people that have been identified as suspects, and not arrested, have gone on to commit terrorist atrocities.
Hmmm, if someone is a suspected terrorist, then there is no low risk. they should have been monitored more closely. If there was evidence to suggest that they may posed a risk to national security then they should have been deported.
Let them go fight against our troops in iraq and afghanistan. Like someone said above, they wouldnt last long...
And the Home secretary thinks control orders are not the answer, he wants tougher measures. Well with Tony backing Nuclear power and Gord not backing out of Iraq I may just have to start voting labour.
Because Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair said so...
"It is believed the men may intend to travel to Iraq or other countries - such as Afghanistan - Nobody can be perfectly satisfied that they are not a risk to the public here, but the intelligence is pointing in another direction."
Oh whatever, so all suspects must now be locked up because they look suspicious and have beards and will forever remain a threat? Why don't they just build another Guantanamo Bay on one of the little islands around Britian (Ireland perhaps?) and maybe then we can all feel safe and never have to worry about would-be (but never convicted) terrorists???
Get a grip, bombs don't go off all over Europe or UK all the time, 7/7 was a one off.
