This is wonderful! A news anchor refuses to have anything to do with the story and tries to burn her script! Go Mika!

Don't blame her - why should she be front line news!

My kinda gal ... do you think we could clone her and put her in news rooms all around the globe. Shades of Adrian Kroneur ' this is new and improved news as reported by' ... still funny!
I think if her job is to read the news, then she should read it, whatever her sentiments are. My father-in-law was bodyguard to 3 foreign secretaries, he couldn't allow them to be injured whatever his own politics!!
You are right of course Neti - it is her job as a newsreader to read in sequence what she's given. It was also very immature of her to want to shred the PH script too!

However, I can understand why she thought the war in Iraq was far more important than all the hype with Paris Hilton.
If it news worthy that someone leaves prison why do we not have a list read in all bulletins of that days releases. Is this really in the public interest? Which came first the chicken or the egg( dodgy celebrity or dodgy news story ), how many people are seriously interested? Not me for one!

I don't think , the 'security' argument is on the same level at all . There are jobs and Jobs. My family have also had responsible in a Nat. Security capacity - they have done jobs they do not polically agree with, you sign away your rights to an opinion that's a given.
Disagreeing with the running order on feeble lead news - more power to her elbow ... it was a crap decision by the director/producer. News readers are often resonsible for writing reporting and setting running order ... power struggle by tin pot dictator anyone?

I'll agree to disagree.
She'll probably get into trouble for that, and she wasn't exactly helped out by those two smartar5e chimps in the studio with her either. Shame she couldn't get the lighter to work. Shame as well she didn't smack those two gimps in their smug faces.

Still, Neti is right of course. She is paid to read the news - certainly the fact that newsreaders just report the facts and let me decide for myself what I think about varous issues rather than trying to force-feed me opinion is the reason I get all my current affairs from TV and radio, and (I'm proud to say) haven't read a national newspaper in years. If newsreaders start getting as preachy as the papers we may as well abandon the notion of free thinking all together, but I can sympathise entirely and I think in her position I may well have done the same thing.

Paris Hilton? Who the hell cares?
Yes she's paid to read the news, but I'm pleased she showed some journalistic integrity (bit of an oxymoron possibly, but you get my drift) and worked on her own initiative - I'm paid to think at work which often results in me doing the opposote of what my boss wants me to do because why bother employing me to think if all I'm required to do is slavishly follow the edicts of somebody else.

On another point I get really annoyed with 'celebrities' like this utter non-entity who get massive amounts of air time and column inches - and for what? What is her talent? what has she achieved? In what way is she newsworthy?

Not unless, of course, being an heiress and being filmed whilst sucking some bloke's dick is classed as newsworthy in this increasingly vacuous world!
Question Author
well, she was trying to read the news... the story of the day (in her opinion) was a pretty striking one about a Republican senator turning on President Bush (who's also a Republican) over Iraq; it shows that Bush's authority is so weakened that even his own party are running away from him in case he stuffs their chances of re-election... which is important as it reflects on the future direction of the world's strongest nation... which affects all of us, as events in recent years have shown... She thought this was more significant than PfH. It's like Heat vs The Daily Telegraph. Astonishingly, I find myself agreeing with her.
