Headmaster's career on the line after pouring water on a pupil's Mohican

A headmaster was battling to save his career after he was accused of pouring water on a student's head to flatten his Mohican. He has been accused of acting inappropriately and he could be struck off for life. What do you think? Do you think that being struck off is a bit extreme?

There's more to the story than that.

That's just one accusation. He's also accused to sending the whole school home early so that he and the rest of the teaching staff could celebrate "a particularly good Ofsted report on the school" and being "extremely bullying and abusive to parents" on the phone.

The mohican incident simply makes the best headline.

I think that yet again, "AB Asks" has presented just part of the story in order to make it look more sensationalist than it actually is.

He is also accused of bullying a mother to withdraw a complaint to governors about school safety and of closing the school to take the staff out to celebrate a good OFSTED report; i.e. the mohican is just one part of a pattern of behaviour that indicates he may bahave inappropirately.

A far more interesting question is what is up with all these distortions of the truth?

I have seen many people with mohican haircuts, and I have never felt the need to assault them.

If one adult went up to another adult, poured water over their hair because they didn't like, probably attempting to humiliate them in the process, then that would be class as an assault. But because in this case it is a bully teacher on a child some people think it is OK.

Totally agree with Gromit. It is unacceptable to treat children any differently to adults. This incident alone shows him to be a bully and bullying should not be tolerated in schools whether it be by students or staff.

The man is totally responsible for representing that school.

Not extreme really, no.

If your boss did the same to you because he didn't like your haircut, you'd either smack him or you'd expect him to be sacked.

If the guy's battling to save his career, maybe he should have put a similar amount of effort into a bit of self-control. He must have known the accepted limits and yet he over-stepped the mark. He's either f*cking stupid, or a liability who can't control his temper.

I think he should be punished in the same way as an errant pupil, maybe a light tap on the wrist with a wet lettuce leaf.
The general council of teachers can then write to his mother informing her of the action taken, giving her the opportunity to respond in a rude and aggressive manner.
