immigrants
hello i want to know how the british feel about immigrants and foreign people such as polish coming to our country, i am not a racist but i feel that they are bleeding our country dry as they come to work live ten to a room to make it cheap send there money home and go back after a few years and there set. i feel this is why our wages are low now coz they get foreign workers cheaper and they get housed over us, i know this coz i have been in this position and the council told us if you was foregin you would get housed tomorrow. i know this is very blunt but i feel its true what are you thougths on this? by the way its not leewayne, its her partner.

I'll come clean.
My parents came here from Jamaica in the early 60s and for the first ten years of my life we lived in places that even cockroaches would turn their noses up at.
I absolutely know exactly what it's like to go out onto the job market and worry. Yes, I am in a well paid job, and yes, I reckon I'm a few years older than you, but I have a nephew who's coming onto the job market now, and I have bullied and cajoled him into staying on at school and going into an area (chartered surveying) where his skillset will be desirable and (fairly) cushioned from the effects of migration.
So when someone asks "What do you feel about foreign nationals coming to our country"...well, I'm a bit ambivalent!

You say you are not racist. Presumably that is because you do either not want to be or perceived to be. ( Remember some people take a pride in being one). Could you take the time out to explain/provide a definition of what is or isn't racist. Otherwise you may get accused of being one as no one is quite sure what your views are and could accuse you of deliberately posting a provocative racist rant - in which case we would be within AB rules to report your post.

It's nice to have a little of the exotic in our population and workplace. But the sheer numbers now here I see as a problem. It's down to numbers and social cohesion. Take a million French people and plonk them in Japan and witness the same results. Ditto a million Japanese flocking to France.
Some skilled people we need although as we're throwing trillions of dollars at Africa in the form of aid, how charitable is it to poach their doctors? With regards to "doing the dirty jobs us British don't want to do" - Poppycock! With over a million on Jobseekers Allowance I see no reason why certain arrangements can't be made with at least half of the potential employers. People who come to this country to work aren't bleeding us dry - they're taking opportunity of a loophole the Govt chooses to keep open. Labour are gerrymandering at an international level.
In the case of asylum seekers, it's largely another gaping loophole in the fence of immigration. The government is responsible lock stock and barrel. If you or I wanted to move to Monaco and we had a choice of going through the proper channels and almost certainly being unsuccessful, or using slack asylum laws (that in reality Monaco doesn't have) that ensured almost definite success, we'd choose the latter every time.
Yes I get angry when I encounter someone I see as a scrounger, be he indigenous or imported, but I get angrier stll with our stupid, stupid government.

Dont get me wrong some do deserve to be here and just want a better life for themselves and there family, but what about our lives too? we work hard but we want a decent life too,all the pity goes on immigrants and british dont stand a chance of getting any pity because then we will just be seen as racist! All i wanted was peoples views not snide comments. I see what goes on around me daily and on the news,i live near slough for goodness sake! Is it just a coincidence that crime rates have gone up,not enough homes to house people, not enough jobs??!! Im talking about the immigrants that dont contribute to this country, not talking about doctors, nurses etc. Racism is discriminating someone against there colour or creed,I am not doing this. I feel that immigrants and foreign workers are bringing the country down and not just the ones from the eu,this is my view, sorry if this raises eyebrows

This whole immigrant debate reminds me of the 1960's , when there was an influx of people from the old british colonies , in particular from the West Indies .
These people came over here - worked there ar%es off doing the menial jobs that the 'indeginous' population did not want to dirty their hands doing .
On the few ocassions they found themselves out of work - they were reluctant to claim anything off the state
I wonder what the opinion of some on here would be if we were in the 60's , debating the west indian immigrants .
The current poles dont seem too dis-similiar in their attitude , to the west indians of the 1960's , in my humble opinion .

I think we should avoid polarising immigrants (and their children - the largest part of our immigrant population is now second, third and fourth generation).
It's not all doctors or larbourers...the UK's non-white population fill roles in every walk of life (there's even a black fella in the Household Cavalry - but you only ever see him when the Queen's up to something on a horse).
There are areas of the country that have high crime in areas predominantly populated by immigrants...but there are also areas of the country which have a high crime rate with practically no immigrants.
Have you ever seen that programme 'Booze Britain' on Bravo? Friday nights in some towns in suburban Britain look like the OK Corral.

You have came here sp1814,worked hard and stayed here, fair play,im referring to the ones who send there money back home, taking all our jobs, and it does happen its reality. Nikkib-your spot on it is the governments doing, they choose to keep it like this. How many times do i have to say im not racist ruby,i have coloured friends etc. This post is not about racism is it? merely expressing my opinion
legend, I`m not exaggerating, I know plenty of builders who are struggling for work due to being undercut by these people
Like you say it is the fat cat bosses who are coining it in, but fook all goes back into the system does it,these people get payed cash in hand and are more than likely claiming benefits as well,

The panorama programme has been mentioned twice - no one seems to mention the misconception about council housing:
AVES: Coming across from Eastern Europe, particularly from Poland, have no right to be re-housed immediately when they get here. However, once they've worked for 12 months and they've paid tax and national insurance, after 12 months they do have the right to join the waiting list.
BILTON: How many Eastern Europeans are on the waiting list then?
AVES: At the moment it's just in double figures - 20 to 30 was the last time we....
BILTON: Was that in Slough?
AVES: In Slough.
BILTON: There are more than 4,000 people on the housing waiting list here, so it's hardly surprising that there are myths about queue jumpers gaining ground.
