Diana fund to help asylum seekers
I am most heartened to see that The Diana Memorial Fund is marking the 10th anniversary of the Princess's death by earmarking up to 10 million of its remaining 25 million funds on promoting the rights of refugees and asylum seekers.

Are you convinced as I am that it is exactly the sort of thing Princess Diana would have been involved in had she lived?

They talk about helping the marginalised in society. It's the old and the sick who are marginalised today."

Okay...I'd settle for 'Lieutenant-Colonel Of The Do-Gooders'.
We'd be the worst peace-keeping force ever - we'd go over to Basra and get the insurgents on our side by getting everyone to sing 'Koom By Ya' whilst sitting round a camp fire, eating museli and stitching a big anti-war 'community quilt'...
...wow - that was scarily well thought out.
China Doll...no - you can be one of the majors reporting to me.
I would then report to Col Jno.
There....sorted.

Gromit
please can you help. I am aware from other posters comments you have posted something clever and subtle. Only trouble is for me is that subtlety and cleverness often defeats my very literal thinking.
What was the clever catch with this, or would that be giving the game away.
bit of a digression. If we are going to use services language. sp1418, I am totally yours to command, can I be your batman?

If I may Rubes - I'm not entirely sure whether Groms is being subtle or clever in this question. In my experience he's only ever one of the two... (I'm kiddin!)
However, I will say that he has an uncanny knack for picking stories that are not only interesting but also likely to spark a bit of a debate between the lefties and the righties. But because he's also something of a bright spark he can always argue his cause too so it's not always obvious.
He has a side line in clock making and his hobby is fishing.
Or I could be completely wrong.
But I think my nickname for him suits him!
Either way, News would not be the same without him and certainly not as amusing.
