Ageism alive and kicking ? at 59 and 12 months of applications i feel its the only reason for the negative results so far

Yes it is alive & kicking. The post before this one is about one of my sisters being off work with stress. She's 55 and has had a new line manager (age 35) since May. Amongst other things, she's had to put up with comments about "being past her sell by date". She has been job hunting without success since May and had NO invites for interviews until she deliberately wrote her date of birth on a form so it could be misread as 1972 instead of 1952. She didn't get that job. She is highly talented in the world of finance and has just accepted a job from a friend as a cleaner. It makes my blood boil.

You want to see it from my view am a plumber and heating engineer who took a break to go selling and i now find it impossible to get back into the job because of rules elf and safety etc my blood is boiling too e-mails too MPs go unanswered Job centre thats a joke if i pay �5000 i could start work in about two weeks i went to college for three years to learn my trade think its time to march on Downing street and sack the whole bloody lot of them

I think the problem here is that the private trade is a lot worse than public service so the Government is actually doing its bit. I am 56 and was working for a local council. An investigative and inspection job was advertised for a government agency and I applied, not thinking I may get it. I did and, when I started, every other new person was the same age as me (in some cases older!).

Check out the age discrimination laws and, if you can show there is a problem getting a job because of your age, there are tribunals and damages.l
