Ambulances and police cars noise

This may sound silly, but im fed up of the over loud sirens emergency services use, and i dont think they need to be that loud. Now, i dont have a problem with sirens in general, if i needed the ambulance or emergency services i would be grateful, but every time an ambulance or police car drives past my ears literally pop and its painful. Ive been to Doctor and they said there's nothin wrong. Is there a national limit on the amount of decibels needed to be used?

As a driver I think often they are too loud. I have seen many people panic and do the wrong thing when blasted by a siren of a vehicle trying to get through.

Perhaps when it's dark they could just use the flashing blue lights? Everyone can see them including pedestrians and if as a driver you miss them then you should be fined for not driving with due care and attention, it should be second nature to be checking in your rear veiw several times a minute, no excuses.

Manchester is getting like the Bronx, the constant wail of sirens at nights just gets worse all the time, sounds like a really busy episode of Starsky and Hutch round here most nights ;o)

Never had any trouble years ago all they had was a bell.

Bass blasters should be banned in cars, they are a danger because how the hell can the occupants hear any warning devices. In this day of ban this, ban that, I have never understood how in-car entertainment has been overlooked.
