community support officers
what kind of a society have we become where police officers whether trained or not in rescue would stand on the bank of a pond while a ten year old boy drowns as happened in wigan.

The kids should have been supervised, the 2 pcso's are not responsible for the deathof the kid, sad as that is.

Maybe they were thinking for themselves, knowing that the area is dangerous, that two men who know the area better than them were in the water already and could not find the boy and so contacted the emergency services to get the correct (police diving?) authorities on their way.
If they are in full kit how much help are they going to be or will they be more hindrance to the two anglers already in the water? Who is supposed to direct the emergency services and care for the girl who had been pulled out of the water?

I've just seen it on the news, and without painting a picture of someone i do not know, the mother gave me the impression that it was quite a regular thing to let her kids go out not knowing where they were.
Its the parents fault 100%

In the fire service the guidelines for firefighters are that they do not risk thier lives for lives that are unsaveable. I cant see it would be different for the police.

I cant imagine what the parents must be going through but they appear to be looking at blaming someone for the loss of their son, as parents would Im sure. But the death of the young lad cannot be blamed on the officers

What a brave little man this kid was,and i really hope he is posthumously recognised as such with a bravery award.

Is there any need for name calling? if you can't use the broad vocabulary to express yourself without resorting to slang and slurs then i feel sorry for you.
I fail to see how the PCSO's are 'to blame' in all of this. If they arrive on scene and there is no sight of the child, and 2 further people at the scene who saw where the boy entered the water couldn't find him, i wouldn't expect anyone to be obligated to dive in and start searching underwater in a cold, murky, rusty-car filled quarry that almost killed the little girl who just went in moments before.
PCSO's are there to enforce regulations laid down by local authorities. Thet are not 'the incredibles' and like it or not, there job isn't to pull people out of burning buildings, talk 'jumpers' down from the roof or to pull kids out of bodiws of water.
I feel for the mother, she's lost one child and almost lost the other. The problem we have in this society is that people always want someone to blame, in this case the parents feel it is the PCSO, despite the fact that the officer in question has no guardian type responsibilities at all.

Parents have a responsibility to care for their children, you cannot watch them 24/7 , however it is far easier to ' let them out to play' than to supervise them. My son goes out to 'play but either he 1) stays in the garden or 2) he's at a friend's house or 3) one of his parents supervise his activity.
I'm sorry for the parent's but ultimately they are responsible for the kids not 2 pcso who did nothing worse than turn up to an incident that weren't trained for.
We have entered a blame culture that is scary, parents need to care for their kids, it is not everyone elses responsibility.

Is there any need for laurence2 to make an assumption of someone they don't know then sifellis. Any way in my opinion its real police we need on the streets,not PCSO's who are only good for walking round looking at tax disc's on car windscreens.Whether the kid was alive or not they should have tried to do something.

As well as the possible reasons given above for the officer's (seeming?) lack of action, it's also worth bearing in mind that had they gone in and failed to save the child then it's quite possible that some ambulance chaser would have told the mother that she had a good chance of suing for damages. (Untrained officers etc).
Unfortunately the American concept of "why work when you can sue someone"?" seems to be far too common these days, to the detriment of society.
