Thanks for all your answers - I have to share the credit with my other half though, as he stayed at home with them when they were very little, and I have always had them after school and nursery. Their faces were beaming last night when we told them about all the good things their teachers had said about them, so hopefully they feel proud of themselves as well.
I hope it continues as they are only 7 and 6 now.
Legend - that's great that your wee one is so proud of himself, there is nothing more important than positive reinforcement and that is something you can do even if you are not able to be with him every day.
Hellibobs - It must be hard managing on your own, I am sure that you are doing a great job and that your son will be a credit to you. I am sure that everyone falls of the rails from time to time, but if they know right from wrong at an early age and feel loved and good about themselves, I don't think that there can be any better start in life regardless of your financial or social circumstances.
I think that all those minutes sitting on the step as toddlers may be paying off!
