MEM 3 pin Energy Saving Light Bulbs
3 Answers
Does anyone know where on earth I can get one of these extortionately priced lightbulbs for MUCH less than 15 all in including VAT and postage?

As a private tennant I have just realised that it's going to cost me at least 30 to replace the allegedly amazingly eco friendly MEM 3 pin bulbs in my hallway. I don't actually think they even last that long!!! We've been here 3 years from new, and already last year had to replace the bulbs with some that the builders left for us. They just suddenly start to fade!
So now I have a dingy hallway but I seriously can't be forking out 30 just for lightbulbs! Apparantly 3 point fittings are now being fitted as standard in lots of new builds homes but the bulbs aren't widely available so it's such a swindle!!!
Anyone else got these bulbs or know of a cheap like for like brand I can use?

It is daft, it's because not many people have the 3 pin fitting so it's a small market

I have had the same problem exactly with our new build house and I's sick of forking out for these expensive bulbs that really don't last that long.
We've been in our house 4 years and onto our 3rd bulb in some rooms. Now the latest bulb has gone my plan now is to just change the light fitting so I can use the normal long life bulbs you buy for 50p!
You can buy new fittings for a few pound and never have to fork out on these apparently non beneficial yet expensive bulbs again!!
Good luck.

annahowlin, like the original OP i'm a tennant and without permission from the landlord/landlady/letting agent you'd not be able to replace the fixtures and fittings, what will likely happen when asking permission is they will request that a qualified electrician carries out this work, sorry just wanted to clear that point.
on the bulbs though and as per the OP i'm in the same boat, searched and searched and the cheapest including ebay were these people:-
http://www.allaboutelectrics.co.uk/
£10.80 including VAT and postage for the Manufacturer Part Number 1266 which is the cheapest of what appears to be four different types due to this one being the equivilent of a 75w bulb.
