'Lyrical Terrorist' - Suspended Sentence.
The Rap Artist who called herself the' Lyrical Terrorist' has been given a 9 month suspended sentence.
She is obviously very foolish for glorifying Jihad, but I think this sentence is about right. Apart from write some bl00dy terrible songs, she hadn't really done any other than download some material she didn't know was illegal.
Do you agree or disagree?

Just looked up the Mujahideen manual you mentioned.
It looks like fascinating reading, and my inquisitive mind would love to see the drivel therein, but alas, I could find myself in court if I looked at it
The editor adds that the magazine is aimed at both jihad fighters and the general public.

Can we put all the "gangsta" style rap artists on 9 month suspended sentences for glorifying murder and gun crime, rape etc etc?
I don't condone terrorism at all but by the lightness of her sentence they obviously dont expect her to have the potential of commiting an actual terrorist act. It just all sounds a bit minority report.
Terrorism shouldn;t be glorified though so I suppose a sentence was appropriate, its just a bit hypocritical when 50 cent and other artists get away with rapping about killing each other, beating on women and "hitting" cops.

If I read a factual book about Murder or Serial Killers would I be arrested for glorifying that? Would it make me a potential Murder? If I then released an album of Murder Ballads (like Nick Cave did), would I face prosecution?
Lemmy from Motorhead and George Harrison were famous for their Nazi memorabilia collections. Lemmy even went as far as saying
"There are photographs (of the Holocaust), but anyone can make photographs. You can fake anything."
Another very foolish person, but he didn't find himself prosecuted.

Ignorance of the law is no defence, she is old enough to be charged with an offence, so her alleged ignorance should make no diffrence.
If the case scared the sh1t out of her and she never ever does anything so stupid again then, the suspended sentence should suffice. However, (and I hope I'm wrong) I doubt it.

The Law is vague and subjective in this area. A researcher (she claimed research for her cr@p poems) can find that material downloaded for one purpose, would be useful to others with a malicious intent. However, most people would not know what is forbidden and what is not.
"Terrorism Act 2000: Section 58 - Collection of information
This section creates the offence, liable to a prison term of up to ten years, to collect or possesses "information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism".
An example is Google Earth. It is known that Terrorists find Google Earth a very useful tool in their armoury. But many millions have it on their computer for innocent use. Should it be banned?

but thi wasn't google earth, its was a jihad training manual on surface to air missiles, hat many people fail to grsp about British law is that there is a certain amount of discression applied by our judges, therefore google earth although has been used to an illigal means is not illigal, wheres this magazine is, and if you can't see the difference well maybe the law will be knocking on your door one day.
