Jonathan Ross 'worth 1,000 BBC journalists'

Jonathan Ross last night joked that he is worth more than 1,000 BBC Journalists. Ross' comments at the British Comedy Awards, were in response to criticism of his �6M year contract with the Beeb.

Mr Ross is a very lucky man.

He has cornered a niche market and he's valuable to the BBC because literally no-one else on telly, either on the BBC or commercial channels, can guarantee a key audience of 18-34 year olds.

This market is the most valuable to television execs. They all want to get the slice of that demographic.

This is why he, Chris Moyles and the like, get paid so much. It's because of who they attract.

I find ross funny on the radio but less funny on TV if that makes sense.

His story about the blue peter garden is one of the funniest things i have ever heard. The only person on radio who i thought rivaled him was danny baker

He probably is overpaid. But he wouldn't get it if the Beeb didn't think he was bringing them in revenue. Good luck to him!

Since we are all shareholders in the BBC (those that pay the licence fee that is) I think we should have more say in how it is run.

the BBC have been criticised for paying him that much on the grounds that there's no competition. Channel 4 (say) couldn't come near to offering him that kind of money on the open market; and Sky almost certainly wouldn't either. (Otherwise they'd have poached him already.) I think the Beeb have greatly overrated his worth. I'm not too certain what his demographic is (he's on Radio 2 rather than One) or how much it matters to the BBC: it matters to advertisers, but the Beeb doesn't have any.

Just a thought if the BBC and the rest of the media only offered him a normal salary, he would still accept it, if he didn't what else would he do and where else would he go.

The same could be said for those other prima donnas, those that kick that bag of wind aound fo 90 minutes.

I agree with you old git, if you look at the economic rent of these "celebrities" and see what they would be doing if they weren't presenters/foootballers, a lavaroty attendant would be fairly close to the top of the list.
