Isn't this Politically correctness Business getting a bit silly now ?

Trevor Philips , the chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission , has condemned attempts to
' brush Christmas under the carpet ' for fear of offending other religions .

He cites for example , the scrapping of Nativity plays by some schools .
Apparently only 1 in 5 schools are putting on these plays .

For christ sake - isn't this supposed to be a Christian country - afterall dont we accomodate other religous faiths
When do you see hordes of Christians protesting about the religous celebrations of other faiths ?

Who are these whimps in these councils that are giving out these ridiculous instructions .
I think that they should be shipped off to Siberia - perhaps a spell in a stable there , will do them some good , and bring them to their senses .

The more I think about it, the less sense it is to have nativity plays in schools.

I see no problem with kids swapping cards or putting up decorations...I mean, you have to have something that reflects the celebration in a place where you spend so much of your waking hours.

But carol services, nativity plays - all that should be church-based.

Surely this makes sense?

Sp- He was interviewed on Radio 4 this morning , and quoted , as I recall , the figure of 1 in 5 schools ( although I suppose someone is going to tell me that 1 in 5 is not the ratio he quoted )

IIRC, in the heyday of political correctness, Trevor Phillips proclaimed "the countryside" as being racist. A ludicrous statement but a very telling belief.

Now there is a very slow but sure backlash against political correctness. Those who have made a living from it are today worrying about their seat on the gravy train and so therefore are adjusting their opinions.

So Trevor Phillips doesn't want Christmas brushed under the carpet?
One has to admire his re-inventiveness and survival instinct.

They said on QI that a lot of the political correctness gone mad stuff is just made up by the daily mail for a story... ie winterful is not what you have to call christmas parties to not offend other religions

PC doesn't really exist. What we see is a reaction against the idea of PC gone mad, and assume it is real.
Have you ever met anyone who agreed with crazy PC statements. Ever?
For every 1 misguided councillor who wants to impress their boss with a new initiative there are a million people who disagree.
However, if 1 million people start complaining then it just gives the original idea an overblown importance. Calm down, ignore it and move on.
If I start a viral e-mail about how there is a new craze amongst kids for drinking petrol, and thousands of people are up in arms and complaining, then all of a sudden I've started a very real thing out of lies and thin air. This is what PC is, an overblown reaction to nothing.
