the army losing troops

How come the MOD can not come to terms why their troops are allowing themselves to be caught doing drugs.
What are your theories ?

It might be a method for a soldier to get a discharge. Unlike officers who can resign at any time they are stuck to complete their service. In days gone past stating you was a homosexual enabled you to get out early.

Having studied a bit on the Vietnam war, I have read that the Americans hospitalised more service personnel because of drugs than for battle injuries.

There are always, and always will be, soldiers that do drugs, I doubt its as big a problem as the media would have us think, although, as a thought, they are in the cradle of the Poppy trade,

The majority of the troops that are thrown out of the forces because of drugs are new recruits that bring their habit into forces when they join.

The forces are then able to weed (pardon the pun) them out early.

I know 3 ex squaddies who deliberately got caught smoking cannabis so they could get out of the army before the time they signed up for.Its a well known ploy to get discharged.

It's 1% of army personnel - just under 1000 out of 100,000. At least the army check it out - most other employers don't.
