A genuine down to earth man who was an amazing inspiration for young football players. Rest in peace Phil.

Just been watching MOTD
Tragic news, my thoughts are with his family

RIP
His nephew, David Clarkson, was also in the team and saw it happen. As someone who was just 10 years old when I witnessed my dad have a fatal heart attack, I know what he's going through right now.

Phil O'Donnell is at least the 5th footballer in the last 4 or 5 years to die after collapsing on the pitch. What is going on? R.I.P. Phil O'Donnell, Marc-Viven Foe, Miklos Feher, Matt Gadsby, Antonio Puerta, and (going back a little further) David Longhurst.
To be truthfully honest I have never heard of him before, but given he is the exact same age as me, the story is truly tragic.

Like him, I am healthy and active but you never know what lies beneath.

May he play football with Bobby Moore and George Best in Heaven.
