The term 'rock' is used to define a very wide spectrum of sounds ands styles, but the basic ingredients are usually some / all of the following: heavy, beat-based music played with guitars bass and drums,vocals usually, but not excluvely by male singers, market aimed at mainly male fans. That's basically it, if you want to explore further, there are dozens of sub-divisions, which i can't go into here, due to lack of space.

Well thank you Bernado for enlightening me,rock is easy to define, but what is roll.Why do people say they're in a band when they don't play an instrument.Examples sugarbabes,spicegirls,westlife and the rest of the tosh my little girl plays so i can enjoy it at peak volume. yeah i know i admit it i've become a grumpy old man!
