So a book about 3 little pigs has been rejected from being given an award because "it may offend Muslims" (where have we heard that before)

What next, Tesco refuse to sell Bacon or Pork Pies because it may offend Muslims.
Miss Piggy banned from the Muppets because it may offend Muslims.
I am getting sick of this.
This is England, we eat pigs, to us a pig is like any other animal. Get over it.

As a free-thinking voting woman I take offence at women covering themselves up except for their eyes - so if nursery rhymes can be banned, so should these outfits.
And before anyone gets their knickers in a twist - I'm not racist or creedist and have plenty of female Muslim friends, whose beliefs I respect, but I, and they, think the burqa is degrading. Their menfolk should wear blinkers - not force their women to cover up!

Maybe it was just sh1t.
None of us have read it. The 70 independent teachers, the people who would have to use it, didn't like it.
They said "it failed to reach the required standard across a number of criteria".
The company whose product has been deemed not good enough have chosen to grasp at just one reason why it was rejected to hide the embarrassment that their efforts were not good enough.

I agree. I'm in no way racist, but I do get annoyed when it is brought to our attention that muslims are upset over ridiculous things.
Same as when some muslims working in tesco's refused to sell alcohol over the christmas period, if it was a Christian person refusing to serve they would have got the sack. Why should a muslim be treat any different, it's in the job description, if they don't like it then don't apply to Tesco!
As it stands I'm pretty fed up of the changes that have been made to make some muslims feel at home, things like 'Christmas Lights' been made into 'Winter Lights' or when some girl won a protest about wearing her headscarf in school for example. The whole point of school uniform is to make each child feel equal despite their colour or religion, by allowing this, it's making other children feel left out or less equal. Stupidity.
This is ENGLAND. If Muslims want to live in this country they should accept OUR rules and beliefs and stop whinging. Same as if we went to their country, we would respect all their wishes like covering our are or removing shoes. It's absolutely ridiculous and makes my blood boil just thinking about it. Also, they should at least make an effort to learn English, it's just manners!

Gromit you can also be accused of grasping "...at just one reason".
Unless the Bett Award judges have been mis-quoted, they did say they had "...concerns about the Asian community and the use of pigs raises cultural issues", so it is a genuine, albeit ridiculous, concern of theirs.
Whatever.
The fact of the matter is that once again these are comments from white liberal people who are getting offended or a scared of causing offence on behalf of/to a section of our society who in all liklihood couldn't give a tinker's cuss.

flip_flop
The book was rejected as much for the offense it might cause builders, as for any cultural problems. Yet the company, and the questioner prefer to just take the comments about Muslims as the only reason and harp on about PC gone mad.
"But its authors were also told that it portrays the building industry in a bad light.
Judges said "retelling a story" was acceptable, but it "should not alienate parts of the workforce", adding that builders should be "positive" role models for young children.
"Is it true that all builders are cowboys, builders get their work blown down, and builders are like pigs?" the judges asked."

Can you honestly imagine a sweaty hairy backsided builder being upset? Seriously?
Can you imagine a Muslim being upset?
I can't imagine either being upset, and the suggestion by the judges that either group would be upset is, I would argue, more insulting to both groups than the percieved insult of the book content.
I certainly wouldn't argue its 'PC gone mad', because I know those who are not of a Daily Moan persuasion find the expression annoying - instead I would argue that the people who came to this decision are, simply, bloody idiots who have an ounce of common sense between them.
