Why do people do it ?
I've just left my car in a supermarket car park, and when I've come back out - found that the person parked next to me hit my car when driving out of their space. I now have a beautiful scratch and dent just over the wheel arch at the passenger side, and am as mad as hell. The supermarket don't have CCTV so I'm not going to be left with the bill to sort it out. (My excess is 250 so no point going thru insurance) why do people do this ? They obviously knew what they'd done and just drove off.

They don't tell you because they will ruin their No claims bonus, and feeling a idot for doing it,
Next time you park up in a supermarket and there is two car next to you, take the, Made, model, and number plate, and colour,
that way you have proof of which car as hit you, and you can let the police know, and you can claim form them and not out of you own pocket,

If it's any consolation, I parked my estate car in a Morrisons car park and when I returned to it, the complete side panel was missing.
An old couple were standing by my car. They said they'd witnessed a mini reversing into my car....the bumper caught under my wheel arch and the mini drove off with half my car attached to it. The oldies very kindly said they'd stayed with my car to tell me about it. When I asked them for the details of the mini, the old man said "It was green."
