The 7-per-hour jobs locals don't want
From BBC2 Prog tonight...
The agricultural sector would be in dire straits without the immigrants willing to do the hard graft on the land. Labour which can net workers up to 25,000-a-year with overtime.
But that's not enough to entice some of the local lads picking up their dole money in Peterborough. A constant trickle of young men are in and out of the office collecting their state benefits. But there's little appetite for taking one of those vegetable-picking jobs of up to 7-an-hour. One group of lads:
Job for 7 an hour - "I prefer to sign on than do that" "No mate I'd prefer to sign-on than do that."

The sooner these young beer swilling youths have their benefits stopped the better. If jobs are available then why should they be allowed the luxury of CHOOSING not to work?
As far as I can see the main problem with the numbers of immigrants being allowed to come here and work is the impact on the health service and schools. This is not the fault of the immigrants concerned. After all, as someone on the programme pointed out, if these immigrants are paying tax and contributing to the economy, why are the government not directing more resources into the health service and schools in these areas?

I can find none of the keywords using the search facility in Adobe Reader. Scanning the document quickly I can see no such statistic but I'm asking you to help me find it *since you know where it is*. It's not a competition or a trap or something, just a simple request for assistance. If the statistic's in there, I'm happy.
Poland is actually reaping the benefits of there workers being here, a large majority are sending considerable sums of money back to their families, building houses etc. They are suffering in the short term because their young workforce is here. But it won't last forever and eventually a large proportion will go back and then what will we do.
In answer to what did we do for veg pickers before..well..the immigarnts were already here but on temporary work permits, they would usually come over in gangs for the picking season and then go home.
We should look at the workfare scheme from the states, work or no benfit, that might shift some of the lazy blighters who feel they have a right to dole.

I had the misfortune to come into contact with lads like the beer-swilling idiots in my last job. There were loads of jobs in the area, but the blokes all seemed to feel these jobs were beneath them. That used to really confuse me as these were people with no qualifications, nothing on their CV and no discernible skills or talents. How on earth can a job be beneath you when you have nothing to offer!
Waldo - Now you got backup in naomi's presence. OK check from page 41 onward. It will not be exact figure of 50% as I used that to emphasize. But figures are not far from there. Even the people who wrote the report they are saying on certain subjects that they do not have exact figures for unknown reasons.
1.2 No accurate estimate of the population of science and mathematics teachers in the UK exists, nor
can this be obtained from the available data. This is because: (i) there is no consensus
Hermia - I agree with you and can tell you why these jobs are beneath them. Because they will have to lift their hand for that where they can get dole without doing that.
Then there is no family system here so they are not responsible for anyone. So they do not have to think more than timely provision of booze and in few cases drugs. And dole gives them enough for that and no worries or accommodation as Council provides that.

Raggy Roman.
Can I just explain that my former boyfriend had a FIRST CLASS HONOURS Degree in Sociology from the University of Liverpool. He worked as a Cauli Cutter prior to going to University and went back doing it afterwards. BECAUSE he realised that no matter how poor the wages were there were too many rich things about Cornwall (where he comes from) to leave it for some high flying city job in smoke, mist, stressed folk and the like.
Everyone to their own, I do NOT however feel that your comment was a fair one.
Best Wishes.

Keyplus Ive had another look, but I can't see what you're referring to. Since you're asking us to sift methodically through over 60 pages of a report in search of one small item, may I suggest you tell us specifically where to find it, otherwise we may as well forget it. It's not up to us to waste an exhorbitant amount of time on futile searches. If you want to prove your point, then the onus is on you to properly provide that proof. Otherwise, I don't know about Waldo, but I personally would rather just dismiss what you've said as nonsense, and forget it.
Read through the entire section on overseas teachers and nowhere does Keyplus's statement or anything close to it appear.
I'd say it's total BS, Naomi. Of course, if Keyplus wants to prove us wrong, an exact page reference would be nice. It's really not that much to ask, is it? We're both happy to accept his figure if we can only read it...

Naomi and Waldo - I think many here know that does not matter how many people put things even right in front of your eyes but still you will see something wrong in that. So at the end I would say that immigrants are here only because there are just not enough people in any field in this country. The situation also known as Demand & Supply phenomena, Doctors, nurses, teachers, veg pickers, builders, cab drivers, bus drivers, even fathers. Now if you have to pick the bones yet once again on my comments about Math, which I have already said that it was mere emphasise then just have a look around you or just read this thread once more and it will prove the main topic we are debating here and that is, why more immigrants are coming here, simply because we are dependant on them. Agree or not.
It wasn't 'mere emphasis' - you were making a point about the ************ of locals saying "the reason [that more than 50% math teachers are immigrants either first generation or second] is the local students want to chose the easiest of the subjects when it comes to just pass the exams."
As far as you've been able to prove your stat about maths teachers is a statistic with no basis in fact whatsoever. You said the facts were in that document, they weren't. Not only is the explict fact you stated not in there, nor is there anything even close.
I don't have a problem if it is true, but as far as we can tell, it's utter nonsense. If I'm wrong, give me a page number to look at and let me see it with my own eyes.
Why should anyone believe a word you say if you go around making up bogus statistics to support your beliefs?

Waldo - At last you got a chance to pick on my words. But many know you very well here. But still I will give you trophy for that. Put it in your attic. You are after the numbers and not the reality. Reality is around you. I have no idea where you are based. But if you can see all those professionals around you the on I pointed out then you will have no problem in opening your eyes. ...................... but only if you would like to. In simple and final words. IF THERE WERE ENOUGH LOCAL PEOPLE THEN NITHER WE WOULD BE SEEING ALL THESE IMMIGRANTS NOR WOULD WE HAVE THIS THREAD. Got it, I doubt it.
