With all the talk about new runways and new terminals why are restrictions not placed on airlines making internal flights when the alternative of using high speed trains is never considered or encouraged?

Not sure what you are trying to say here. Airlines operate aeroplanes so why would they encourage you to travel by train? And who would want to? In general trains are less reliable (ie more prone to cancellation and delays), more expensive, and slower. And who would want to spend 3-4 hours standing up, which has happened to me. On the other hand I always get a seat on a plane!

Someone has got to adapt if we are to solve the polution generated by travel. Airline passengers are producing a greater footprint and a few pounds on their ticket helps no one. To compound this by internal flights when there are other suitable forms of transport between British airports which use a lot less carbon. Commuters may have to stand during the rush hour but are you that restricted by taking a flight to some other country and can adjust your timing.
