When my niece had her 1st communion I bought an expensive (ish) leather bound notebook. On the front there was a word embossed, something like 'memories' or 'special times'or something similar. She keeps it and uses it as a special memory journal, just for very special occasions. For example when she was a bridesmaid, or a special holiday.
I have seen nice ones in Wesley Owen with a cross embossed on the front.
Hope this helps, good luck.

You could check out the following website, which has some lovely gift ideas on it, including photo frames, photo albums, communion certificate holder, plaques, pictures, glass guardian angels, rosary beads, pen and bookmark set, etc. www.firstholycommunion.co.uk. I think they do free delivery in the U.K. You could also see if the parish church has a gift shop - they may stock a range of gifts.
Also, jewellery shops and card and gift shops often do a range of gifts for First Holy Communion, which you could then maybe get engraved.
Maybe ask the parents first what they and the Godparents will be buying, so you don't repeat anyone's gift!.
