Why do these two have to remanded in custody until November. After all unlike suspected terrorists they are not likely to go to ground.

Does anyone think that if they had been wealthy celebs. they would have been imprisoned for 8 months before standing trial? After all in this country one is innocent until proven guilty.

I think it may be for their own protection. Feelings are running high in Dewsbury, apparently!
There's no "think" about it - I would have thought it was obvious given the news about police having to issue flyers warning against revenge and the house being barricaded up.
the authorities seem to take a dim view of the perversion of the course of justice - Blake Fielder-Civil (although perhaps not a wealthy celebrity is married to one) seems to have been on remand for rather a long time.
As you know this case has already had many twists and turns. The prosecution will in this time be sifting the mass of evidence and trying to present a water tight Cse. This process takes time. Also, I imagine a trial lasting a few weeks, so the case will need to be timetabled at the end of the current queue.
I've read the news stories and listened to all the TV reports but can anyone explain to me what their motif was for staging such a farce and how in earth they expected to get away with it.
puss_boots, it has been suggested in the press that they orchestrated the disappearance in order that the British public would donate to a Find Madeline-type fund which they could then spend. I'm not 100% sold on this as it became clear quite soon that this didn't happen. But I suppose by then it was too late for them to back out. God only knows how they expected it to all end. But then they aren't the sharpest tools in the box are they?
And the 2 blokes accused of Blackmailing a Royal. Remanded since September ! As you say of Shannon's Mum -unlikely to flee the country and what if they do? Good riddance.
