Do you see someone of a different ethnic origin and think I'm going to get beat up/stabbed/robbed? Are you too scared to go into some areas of the town where you live because of the ghetto culture which seems to be rife in the UK? With Leicester heading towards being the first UK city to have a white minority what are your views?
Personally I don't share this fear of other ethnic origins. I'm just wondering how many of you other AB's do and perhaps why?

All races have their abusive and racist groups and all races have their good hard working sides.
Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot more media issues based around asian and black youths. But I do think it makes you question why there are so many issues, when they are supposedly the minority.

well im from Leics and yes i do believe we will be the first city to experience this, not heard about the mayor but we've had asian mayors before, the fact that she is an asian female is irrelevant really.
I have to say, although we white folk might be becoming the minority here, Leics is a very tolerant city, rarely hear of any racial attacks. Its not just asians either, we have all sorts here now. I think because its been like this here for so long, its just accepted. I do see certain areas becoming purely asian because folks move away as soon as it starts to happen. Where i live, the last 7 or so houses that have been sold have been bought by asians.

personally I have had enough of what is happening to this country.I am very lucky that I dont see much of it but i have experienced it. my experience was i work in Luton and my van broke down and i had to walk through a Luton estate and I had comments made at me and I am a white Englishman ?not very nice.
I think its a bout time that we all should make a stand and be counted, this Government is not looking after the average man on the street does he care i think not.

Asians, who?
Chinese?, Filipinos?, Indians?, Vietnamese?, Koreans?, Japanese?Cambodians, Pakistanis , Laotians , Hmong, Thais? Arab? Bangladeshis?
Muslim? Hindu? Buddhist?
I had a lot of friends of different ethnicity from Asia and found each race to be unique. You cant generalize the term as Asia has more races, languages and religions than the whole world combined.
I am White, but there is a large difference (yet small compared to the Asian races) between the British, American, French ,Spanish, German etc.

oneeyedvic, your comment after you repeated persianladys sentance about complaining to the dean was "what we really wanted was all the asians thrown off campus". i think your assumption that this is what she really meant means you think she was being rasist ,otherwise why did you write the comment?personally i wouldn't feel any fear from walking past any person, regardless of colour, nor would i think a white person would be a paedophile. that thought wouldn't occur to me so i wonder why it would to you. as for the asians in suits / skinheads with tattoo's question most people wouldn't fear either unless given reason to. also it may have escaped your notice but white people do moan about white youths, they call them 'hoodies' amongst other more 'colourful' names! are we being rasist to each other now because if they are asian/black then to people like yourself we apparently are.
If you think that people aren't scared of skinheads with tattoo's then I would love to live in your world. The whole point of being a skinhead (in this context) is to intimidate.
My point with the 'thrown of campus' remark was obviously said tongue in cheek - remember all she had said at this point was My daughter left Oldham college because her and her friends were being sexually harrassed by asians. This is totally without any context. What exactly is sexual harrasment? Some will take it to be a slap on the backside, some will take it to be a wolf whistle. This is what I took it to be if the Dean asked them to walk around in pairs.
Apparently in this case 'sexual harrasment' is actually 'threatened to be raped'. Personally in this type of case, I wouldn't have gone to the dean of a university but to the police. Personally I can't see a Dean of a university, if a threat of rape is reported, asking the girl in question to walk around in pairs. But obviously I am wrong if what Persianlady says is true.

The harrassment started off with wolf whistles and the like, but because their attention was ignored, the youths turned very abusive and threatening. If my daughter had been able to identify the culprits I would have had no hesitation in calling in the police. I hate to say this, but it is true. unless you know them personally, they all look the same. I would have taken it up with the dean myself at the time. But my daughter begged me not to. She did not want me to draw attention to her.
I get so sick of people refusing to accept that there are problems in Oldham. Usually by people that have never even been there. But, if they DO accept that there is a problem then they will say that the problem is the white mans intolerance or prejudice. Why do some people refuse to accept that racial intolerance and abuse is practised by a substantial (admiitedly not all ) number of Pakistani/Bangladeshi asians in Oldham.? Is it going to stop if the authorities just ignore it? They dont just ignore it, they actually deny it is happening! No one doubts that white people abuse asians, but refusing to accept that asians also abuse and intimidate white people is not right.
Out of the many many Asian races I find many of the Pakistanis and the Arabs threatening and aggressive.
I love the friendliness and manners of the Filipinos and Indians.
It is unfair to group them all together. It is like saying the Europeans started the holocaust.
I am living in an Arab country. Here nearly all Bangladeshis do menial labor, I find it comical to think they could be threatening. I find them repressed and lacking voice.

persianlady - so let me get this straight. Your daughter was verbally abused and went to the dean. She couldn't identify anyone (as they all look the same). What exactly did you want him / her to do?
pusspuss/ sambro - why do you think I don't accept that there is a problem? I accept that there is a problem.
What I do want to know is how do you plan to solve this problem? By thinking that all asian people are criminals? That is firstly an incorrect assumption and secondly will not solve anything.
Personally, I think it should be solved by stating facts as opposed to opinions and by treating people as individuals.
If you have the attitude of they all look the same or abuse is practised by a substantial (admiitedly not all ) number of Pakistani/Bangladeshi asians in Oldham. this is misleading and will do nothing but damage community relations.
Fact is that there are a lot of ethnic minorities in this country. That is not going to change. By having attitudes as stated above, all you are doing is forcing them into not mixing with the indigenous population and adding tension to an already volatile problem.

Where I live on the outskirts of london, we don't have many black families living here, some asians, but not too many to be be considered over run like some areas. Durig the day, thanks to the local college, we get to see loads of black and foreign kids, but after college hours, very few, so if I saw a crowd of them out at night, I reckon I would be bricking it a bit. That said, I would also be doing that if it was a crowd anyway. I tend to go everywhere by car or cab at night.
we are part of the 'white flight'. we left london when my husband retired because we wanted to live amongst similar folks. that is not PC nowadays, we feel amongst a minority in london. i worked in the civil service and felt disadvantaged because i wasn't an ethnic minority. i hate feeling like that. in the 60s and 70s i had lots of friends from africa and asia, but now i feel wrong for being white, that's just not right. probably this answer will be deleted as racist, but i'm not, just being honest.
oneyedvic..... who is saying that all asians are criminals?
Get off your soapbox and stop making assumptions. And stop nitpicking. I said they all look the same because they do. It would not bother me if an asian said all white people look the same. That is exactly what the indigenous population are up against. It is impossible to speak freely, dare to be critical of the way members of an ethnic minority behaves and you are accused of being racist and of damaging community relations. Well it works both ways. I am heartily sick of always having to appease these minorities. I wish them no harm. I wish I could believe that SOME of them wish me no harm either, but I don't.. I don't know how to solve the problems. I wish I did. But a good start would be acknowledging that there are very real problems that need addressing. We solved our problems in Oldham by moving away from there.

Do you not see that by judging an entire grouping by the actions of a few that you are discriminating? Is it any wonder you fear the accusation of being called racist?

The Corbyloon..... yes I can see your point.. However, I was speaking of my experiences of living in Oldham. If my comments make me a racist, then so be it. I really don't care. If I have a bad opinion of asians in Oldham the blame lies entirely with the ones who behaved badly towards me and my family. I am not stupid, of course I realise that there is good and bad in everyone. But it is a relief to be living in an area where there is no racial tension. until you have experienced it, you have no idea what it is like. I could not stand it so I moved. I am not the first and I wasn't the last. You could not pay me to live in Oldham again.
Corbyloon...... save your breath. What makes you the expert on how people should think. My views are based on my own experiences. If those views make me racist I make no apology for it. It used to bother me, but I don't care anymore. When this country becomes an Islamic state, and ALL women in this country become second class citizens as happens in most islamic countries, we will have the likes of people like you to thank for it. I hope it will not happen in my lifetime, but happen it will.
