I was bombing around on the pavement and road in beautiful datmouth today...I had hell of a time,great fun. Brought the scooter of a keewee...Only prob was as i was packing it up an officer saw me on the road near the police station and told me i was commiting an offence because the scooter had an engine although it could not be heard and was electric he quated the road traffic act and said i could only use it on a private road and would need tax and insurence for other use ,,,this seems ridiculous...It seems to me as well as the goverment tying our lives down with tax and red tape they want to stop us enjoying ourselves...What is the law anybody out their ...do u now....

An electric scooter requires tax and insurance if it is to be used on the public highway. (Additionally, the rider must wear a crash helmet and, if using the scooter at night, display lights). For the purposes of the Road Traffic Act, the law regards the definition of a 'public highway' as extending to any private land to which the public have free access. So it's still illegal to use an electric scooter on, say, a supermarket car park, even though it's actually private property.

Hey fair dincome,,im just think this country is getting stupid.I was,nt doing anyone any harm and i was just enjoying myself...if i was on a biycle they would,nt of said anything..the police are funny...They do,nt stop evrybody such as cyclists on the pavement..I thought he wanted a go that was why he was upset,he,s human after all. I now,i do,nt know why we all put up with it,all my amtes on the building sight have a low feeling about britian..things used to b better.we are all stupid letting the government walk all over us...what are u going to do...come on !!!!!

??? I dont really understand where you are coming from. You are in a motorised vehicle, and therefore need tax and insurance. Sure you weren't doind any harm, but what would happen if you knocked someone down and broke their leg? or if you caused a multiple pile up on the road? Do you have the money to pay compensation and fix everyones cars? or compensate for a death you caused? Also, you still wear our the road/pavement so you should pay tax
