It's very simple. He only has to promise, I mean PROMISE, to do one thing and he will get a guaranteed swing of approx 25%. All he has to do is to GUARANTEE that his government will abolish the smoking ban in pubs, clubs and leisure facilities. Not in factories or offices or other places of work. The ban has hit these establishments quite hard, particularly clubs, so it will be beneficial for employment in these places. And as I've said before on here, passive smoking does not cause any illnesses. There is no proof. Only guesswork and speculation.

or reduce fuel tax
whoever takes over 10 downing street is going to find it a rough road for a few years yet, its going to take a long time for the economy to turn around.

Im glad the smoking ban is in place, its nice to be able to breathe properly, why encourage a dirty habit in any case.
As an avid anti-smoker, I still actually agree with you. The liberal side of me and all that.

However I believe the greatest vote winners will be the introduction (like Rudolph Gilianni (sp??)of short sharp shock treatment of petty criminals and shutting our borders to bloody foreigners on both asylum and immigration.

He's a politician. He is as likely to keep any promise he makes as I am likely to become pope.

yeah but if he did it for votes and didnt go through with it then he would lose voter confidence, like alcohol I think they are simply seen as good earners along with fuel. They dont really care as long as they are making a mint out of it.

I enjoy a good drink and its a real pleasure not to walk back in the house absolutely reeking of tobacco smoke. My routine wa to get undressed in the garage, go for a shower and then join the rest of the family. The ban is bliss !
lol pious, its freedom of choice if I dont want to smoke, why does it make me sanctimonious wanting to be able to breathe in a public place?

It would probably save the NHS a fortune in smoking related diseases
I don't smoke but I would rather take the risk and share a room with smokers than drunks.
Drinking has cost this country more in police action, NHS treatment, broken families, battered wives and children, council bills to pay for the morning after clean up, unwanted pregnancies from quick, booze filled knee tremblers than smoking ever did or could.

I think they are both as bad tiger, I dont drink or smoke
I agree Tiger. But for the sociable couple it can be difficult. My wife and I used to meet friends on the weekend lunchtimes down our local and the smoking was horrendous. My wife suffers from Asthma and in the end she had to stop joining us as the next day her breathing was abysmal. I have to add though it was not a pub that was a haven for drunks and poor behaviour.

I understand Ed. It must be difficult for those it affects. But I would still take my chances with the smokers.
My daughter smokes and drinks. When she smokes she great. When she drinks shes bad. She doesn't seem like the same person.
I think there should have been some sort of compromise with the smoking ban.
whether smoking affects me passively or not I still dont want to reek of cigarette smoke, that is not being sanctimonius..
I forgot to add to this drinking list all those killed on the roads by drunk drivers.
