Cremated - Not.

After the trauma of last week, I had to visit the Vet today, to have my cat's stitches taken out. She'd had a lump taken from her stomach and one of her thyroids taken out, after her first checkup, they found another lump. Today great news, her weights up and her heartbeat is ok, and the vet believes that the lump is just a bit of breast gristle. The vet said that I shall have my cat for a lot longer now, but will check on her every so often.

Kital: I took your advice, and wrote a note to the vet, of what I wished, and she's agreed, about having her come to my home to 'put my cat down' when her time comes. And they will arrange the cremation.

So glad to hear your cat will be OK.

It seems awful to plan ahead for that terrible day, but in the long run it does make things easier at the time and you can switch into 'remote control' mode if the worst does happen and just concentrate on yourself and your animal rather than have to make decisions about payment, cremation etc. when you really don't want to.

I tend to write things down so that if I am in floods of tears I don't have to actually say the words outright (sometimes it is just too difficult), I can just hand the note to the receptionist/vet and get out of there fast!

Once again, glad to hear you will be owned by your cat for a while longer.

PS As well as being a dog owner I am also owned by a cat I never intended to be but he moved in about a year ago!!!

brain dead tonight cat not car. also you are so right about the folks on here they are great. helped me no end when i lost 3 of my 4 legged family a few weeks back it was nice to be able to talk with people who understand

kita, the note-writing idea is great. Given the state I get myself into just thinking about Jack's "time", I don't think speaking will be an option when it finally comes!

I missed your posting last week, but just want to say that I am very happy for you and puss! I hope you enjoy many more happy times together.

I have always had my animals put down in my own home and it has been so much nicer for the cat/dog and for our family. A very gentle way to go in familiar surroundings with the people you love and who who love you around you.

1rovert, I'm so glad to hear your good news! Maybe I didn't mention, but I've got 5 cats as well (I've had cats all my life and all have lived to a ripe old age, except one little chap who got meningitis as a kitten and sadly, died very young). I love them all to bits and would be devastated if anything happened to them! Two of them sleep on my bed with me and the others all have their little places in the house that they prefer. I know exactly what you meant in your previous post, when you said that you and your cat were very close - I have one old lass (she's nearly 11, so not that old, really) who's my soulmate and I adore her! I'd like to again thank you all for your very kind thoughts and words. My friend 'Wordy' is getting back to old ways, doing what cats are good at ... keeping me awake.. eating grass and sharing it with me (Cat people will know what I mean), meowing when her tray wants changing.
