Food shortages in Portugal
Reports are saying that there is some terrible food shortages in the supermarkets in Spain and Portugal. Lisbon airport is closed and there are reports of two truckers being killed. I also heard that there is hardly any fresh meat in Madrid.
My parents fly out to Portugal for a holiday on saturday and are a little worried. Any ideas how this can affect tourists or has it been blown out of proportion....there doesn't seem to be any reports in the papers or online.
Many thanks

How can you say that ?
I went into google and searched on "Portugal Food Shortages"
I then selected the "News" tab near the top.
The first news item said
"Food shortages feared across Spain"
Underneath it says "1,109 news articles"
Click on that and you get hundreds of articles.
Here is one on BBC web site

Yes it is all true esp in Spain, people are panic buying fuel and food and some supermarket shelves are empty. Having said that I did a big shop today and the shop assured me that they could keep supplying for a couple of months at least as they are part of a chain. The truckers who died, one was a picket and jumped on a moving lorry to try to stop it and he was killed, so own fault really and the second was asleep in his parked lorry and someone set fire to it in retaliation for the first one's death, but they didn't realise that there was anyone in there. We are allgetting heartily sick of it all and the amount of food being thrown away is huge. Prices have shot up. Hopefully it'll all be over very soon.
