Should Stagg have received such a large compensation sum? Although Colin Stagg says he feels no sympathy for Barry George, is he any different to him?
Regarding the OTT compensation, he is not on his own.
The officer involved in securing Mr Stagg's confession received 200,000 after it was accepted she should have been given counselling following her 'harrowing and dangerous assignment'.
It took a seven-year legal battle before the youngster, now living abroad with his father, was awarded 90,000 for trauma and loss of the services of a mother.
Do our troops get councelling, after their 'harrowing and dangerous assignments? and do they get paid such high compensations for their injuries?

They needed a conviction in what was a high profile case .
I remember it well having lived near Wimbledon Common at the time .
He will never live a normal life .The shadow of this will always hang over him .
What Colin Stagg has to do with our armed forces is beyond me .There is no comparision .
They join up ,nobody forces to them to do this .Nobody has to take the Kings Shilling these days if they don't want to .
Your argument should be with the people who lead us into wars that are not of our own making .
What did you do in the war ? You seem to have a huge opinion about it .Nazi jackboots and all that .
Have you have ever fought in war or are you just making sweeping statements ?

Does Colin Stagg deserve this size of compensation payout ?
Any answers to this type of question , relating to an issue of this nature , is always going to be subjective .
How do you put a value for compensation for someone who endures the following :-
- Being banged up for 13 months - and villified by the press and public for 15 years .
- Waking each morning and not being able to do things , that free citizens take for granted , each day .
- Waking up after a bad dream , where you are banged up for a crime you didn't commit - to find that the dream is a reality .
- Knowing that you are innocent , but powerless to do anything about it
- thinking of other miscarriages of justice , where people have being banged up for years , before being proven innocent - and thinking to yourself constantly that you may spend a similiar period incarserated , before being shown to be innocent . Or worse still never having the injustice , come to light .
All I can say is that i hope to god that I dont find myself in a similiar situation - I would go bananas and would have to be transferred to one of those institutions , where the staff wear white coats .

I am sorry zacsmaster if I insulted you, but when people insult our troops by making the generalisations as you did.....
Too many people toss it off at school and have no option than to join up and then go for the sympathy vote when they find they actually have to fight and then expec compensation.
I'm afraid it's the truth that there are those who treat the education system as a joke and end up with no other 'career' opportunity than to join up.
Then it makes me rarther annoyed, and I tend to lash back.
There are many reasons young people join the armed forces, Family tradition, loyalty to certain Regiments or branches of the services, adventure, to see the world, or to gain a career they would find it hard to acheive in civvy street. (ie Flying etc). Many also join up from universities.
But to gang them all together like you did (I know in your second post you did correct yourself) was in my opinion wrong.
Incidently I notice you chose to ignore the Christmas Island Vets.

Move on AOG. What has all you talk about got to do with the compensation paid out to Colin Stagg.
Please don't order me to move on. The whole point in my post was to highlight the differentials in compensation payouts, and the answers have rather turned solely to the compensation payed out to the Armed Services.
And how do you know we would be living under Nazi rule. A lot can happen in 60+ years.
Who would be around to overthrow them? If you make bold statements such as this, please could also you give some examples of how we could have overthrow a fanatical regime that already ruled the rest of Europe?

Please read the post !!!!!!
It was all about comparisons, not Colin Stagg in particular, I know the heading was Colin Stagg, but this was only to attract attention.
The following is an extract from the news article:
Tory MP Patrick Mercer said: 'There is a total imbalance between the payout for the indirect victim of the crime, in this case Rachel's son, and the payout Mr Stagg received.
'I do wonder where we are getting figures like this from when servicemen injured on the battlefield in Iraq and Afghanistan are getting nothing close to this amount.'
Now I have got this out of the way once again, let me correct you "The King's Shilling" don't we now have a Queen on the Throne?
What did you do in the war ? You seem to have a huge opinion about it .Nazi jackboots and all that .

Why do you find the need to be so offensive, have I, or did I post anything that was offensive to you? This site is for people to post questions open for debate, not an opportunity for people too slag each other off.
