RAF short of men

I was reading in the paper that the RAF is so short of men, that they are going to recruit men from Jamaica.

That is how my Dad came here.

What do you all thnk of this??

Obviously, they will be allowed to stay, once their duty is over. It will add to the 2 million below!!!!

I'm a bit confused by the number 'two million'. If 2 million young black men left Jamaica alone, the local economy would absolutely collapse.

Surely the figure must be a lot lower than that???

It worries me witless that multicultural politically correct stupidity will one day put a completely unsuitable pilot into something like a Eurofighter Typhoon merely on the basis that he is black or ethnic minority or muslim or whatever.

Fast jet pilots have to be the very very best in the world, irrespective of their culture or religion.

Don't know how many Black Airman we had in the RAF, during WW2, but the Americans would not give them guns. They were usually given driving jobs.

The thing that irritates me is that there are black soldiers, sailors etc who fight for the very people who assume that they're somehow inferior to their white colleagues.

Also I assume that the RAF wouldn't put a black pilot in charge of multi-million pound aircraft if he weren't up to the job - same as they would with any white pilot.

i can only find reference to one regiment from the west indies. that is why i asked. most people from the west indies were laid back and peaceful and did not take any part.

to the ???? who said no black pilots. there was a black pilots squadron in the USAF which won many honours.
they would have won more only for some bigots in power said that a black man could not fly a plane. so they only came into the war very late on .

as for the gurkhas living here , if they are good enough to fight for the country . they are good enough to LIVE HERE.

Like my handwriting (which now looks like that of a 10 year old), computers have ruined my ability to spell.

I could write up everything in Word beforehand, but where's the fun in that?

Re: black soldiers...not quite true that they were simply drivers. There were heroic black units in the US military but you really don't hear much about them. Thankfully, Spike Lee's forthcoming movie Miracle at St. Anna should dispel some igrnorance about the role that black units played in WWII

You really need to educate yourself before you try talking amongst adults.

Go to the Imperial War Museum and have a walk around if you want information about how black and You cannot simply trawl the Internet for information.

Anyway, look - enjoy the rest of this thread. I honestly can't engage further with you because a) trying to impart knowledge to you is like trying to put a blancmange into an envelope and b) it's my anniversary and I'm off for a jolly nice meal and a trip to see Jude Law in Hamlet.
