High heel shoe foot damage costs NHS 29 Million!
The problems caused by high heel shoes cost 29 million a year in corrective foot surgery, figures have shown.
NHS consultant podiatrist Emma Supple, who led the study, said: "While we love our high heels, wearing them for prolonged periods is bad news for our health and wallets.
The study of 1,000 women, funded by shoe firm MBT, found almost half of women in Liverpool and Manchester wore heels all week long. It also found that four in ten women have had accidents in heels, with most suffering twisted ankles.

A small price to pay?
or
Money that could be better used for cancer drugs and lifesaving operations?

I mean they probably spend a few quid on all sorts of things caused by day to day wear and tear I mean lets ban hip ops I mean self inflicted all that walking about!
LOL Rosetta.
They are stupid things to wear. Everybody should wear sensible shoes for the sake of their feet and posture; but................
I would love to wear them - I used to - but would now fall flat on my face, let alone a twisted ankle. I have to wear sensible shoes now :o( . Oh to be young.

You should know by now R1Geezer that Gromit generally asks either/or questions, then sits on the fence awaiting popular opinion for or against before committing himself.
Regards the subject of 'High Heels' (Stilettoes), I think the problem is that there are more obese ladies these days.
Another fact is todays women do not seem to have the same deportment as women had in the past. They tend to walk much faster and with a certain masculine gait, which I imagine isn't the perfect way to walk when balancing on high heels.
Dick Emery springs to mind.

You could argue that women wearing high heels actually saves the NHS money.
High heels make women look sexier, which in turn makes men happy.
Increased levels of happiness in men leads to a decrease in depression.
The total cost of depression in England among adults over 15 years old in 2000 is estimated at over 9 billion - but 72% of sufferers were women.
So men's depression costs the NHS 2.52billion according to those figures.
If only 5% of those men are cheered by a shapely ankle in stillettos then the savings to the NHS is a stunning 126,000,000 per year!
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the case for the defence rests.

But the men who are driving cars are distracted by those women walking down the pavement in high heels, so they take their eye off the road, causing many car accidents.
The cost of hospital treatment, car repairs, police time, and so on comes to 127,000,001 by my calculation, therefore balancing the cost SAVED by them wearing high heels in the first place.

I would challenge the assumption that men in cars can actually see women's legs to the extent you suggest.
The majority of modern cars don't allow views below the waist, unless the person viewed is between 20 and 25 feet away, rendering the overall effect of the shapliness of the leg diminished.

Which in turn increases the birth rate, which puts a huge cost onto the NHS.

I would have thought by now you could predict my views on most things, but I guess you must be a slow learner.
Of course I can predict your views on most things, if not all. But that wasn't the point in question. If you read my post again I think you will find this to be correct, I was just stating a fact.
So you see Gromit before you accuse me of being a slow learner, just take however long you need, to ponder why you did not also come to the above conclusion.
