Blair resigns!

After all the fighting and arguments and rows Sir Ian Blair has resigned as head of the Met.

Do people believe that after all that history he is really stepping down because Boris Johnson hasn't supported him enough?

Or is it the de Menzes case?,

or all the racism charges?

or is he just worn out?

I'm surprised he's gone before the verdict of the Menenzes case. I would've thought he'd wait for the outcome of the enquiry

However, after the three years he's had, I wouldn't be surprised if he finally thought, "Nuts to this...now I don't have the backing of the Mayor - I'm outta here".

I think he should have gone when the other Blair went. He has obviously lost the support of his force and there are a number of senior officers in the Met whose actions have bought the force into disrepute.
Don't underestimate Boris. He may seem an affable guy on the surface but I understand he gave Blair the gypsy's warning as soon as he was elected and I'm not surprised that Blair has decided he can no longer swim against all the negative currents.

If I was Boris, I would do my damnedest to ensure Blair left without a pay-off. After all he resigned � has wasn�t pushed.

Why should the tax payer give him sh!t-loads of money?

I if resigned from my job, I�d get diddley-squat, let him claim constructive dismissal and get any deserved compensation via the same route as anyone else.

On the news tonight. He was sacked by Boris but he was acting as head of some police organisation not as his capacity as Mayor. The probable real reason was political just as was his handling of stopping the free oil from President Chevaz. He will also stop the extension to the London charging zone as they don't believe in taxing the rich.

Law inforcement is a bl00dy joke because of idiots like Blair, let's hope a few more throw the towel in and we can get some proper kick ass coppers back again. How dare Jaqui Smith, or any other member of this government, dare to criticise another politician for trying to influence the police. Political interference is the foundation upon which Noo Labour is built!

Ian Blair has fallen foul of a situation he created - he tied himself to politics, allied himself to politicians and has now, ultimately, been ousted by a politician. He should have gone long ago, should have had the decency to accept the failings of the Met under his leadership, but like so many public figures he squirmed and avoided taking the blame. He was out of his depth from day one.

I only hope that his successor - who will hopefully not be from the pool of his politically desirable cronies - learns from his mistakes and re-establishes an independance that the public and officers want.
